JOYCE WHITFORD (nee STEVENS) 1924 - 2018 Having lived a happy and fulfilled life of 93 years, Joyce rested her eyes for the last time on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Sunnywood Manor in Pine Falls, Manitoba. Joyce was born in London, England on November 24, 1924. Growing up, she spent many memorable holidays in Lyme Regis, on the south coast of England. She enrolled in nursing school at South London Hospital in the early 1940s. During that time, she met her future husband, James. After the war, Joyce and James married and started a young family before immigrating to Canada. Joyce continued her nursing career at Toronto Children's Hospital, in Kenora, Ontario and Pine Falls, Manitoba. Joyce enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting for her grandchildren, watching hockey, social events with family and friends, and in her final year, playing BINGO. Joyce had a great sense of humour and enjoyed a good laugh. She was a lady who enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved all animals and wildlife and had a soft spot for the family pets, including Charlie the chipmunk, her Silver Falls buddy. Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband of 70 years, James; her parents, Fredrick and Phyllis; aunts and uncles. Left with wonderful memories of their mother are her children, Jennifer (Wayne) Dreger, Jillian Whitford, Janice (Raymond) Thompson, Jeffery (Carolyn) Whitford. Joyce also held in her heart nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her brother Michael (Vera) Stevens, and Michael's son Daniel; sister-in-law Elvira Whitford; nephews, Stephen and David Whitford and their families. A private family gathering will be held. Our heartfelt thanks to the Home Care Team, Dr. Ali, Joanne and the amazing staff at Sunnywood Manor for all the love, care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160 - 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
