ELIZABETH JEAN MCWILLIAMS January 4, 1925 - August 21, 2018 Born in Edmonton, AB, Jean was the eldest child of Richard and Rieta McNern. She grew up in Wainwright, AB, coming to Winnipeg in 1939 to attend Riverbend School for Girls. It was there she made many lifelong friends. While attending school, she met her husband, Bill McWilliams, who was serving in the R.C.A.F. They were married in Winnipeg, in 1945 and she became an integral part of the McWilliams clan. Bill Jr. was born in 1948. Family and friends were very important to Jean and she spent many happy summers at Whytewold. She and Bill also loved to travel and had many trips to Hawaii, Florida, California and throughout Canada. Jean was artistic and enjoyed sewing, crewel and knitting. Genealogy and family history were favourite hobbies and her garden and flowers were always a source of enjoyment. In earlier days, she did volunteer work on a regular basis and she enjoyed playing badminton at the 'Winter Club'. She was always interested in sports, especially golf and football. Go Bombers! Playing bridge with family and friends or with new acquaintances at Lions Place was a lifelong pleasure. Jean was kind, loving, pleasant and fun to be around. She was our matriarch. A beloved wife, mother, aunt, great-aunt, great-great-aunt and loyal friend. She will be deeply missed, but will be forever in our hearts. Left to survive her is her son Bill; sisters, Doreen Martin, Eileen (Rudy) Koretz, Beverly (Bob) Rattray; brother Bill McNern, many dear nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her loving husband in 2009, and her sister Florence, and two brothers, Lloyd and Ken. She wishes to thank Dr. Sheila Domke for her many years of care and compassion, and the wonderful and caring staff at Riverview Health Centre. At Jean's request, there will be a private family service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Bill, in Elmwood Cemetery. According to her wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 'Friends of Elmwood Cemetery' (88 Hespeler Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2L 0L3).
