ANNIE (ANNE) MARY MILLS Annie (Anne) Mary Mills (nee McAllister) passed away peacefully at Middlechurch Home on August 24, 2018 at the age of 91. Anne was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) in 2013, brother John, and sister Phyllis. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Ken (Tina) and Ray (Karen), and grandchildren, Meghan, Evan and Justin. She is also survived by numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Anne was born on September 29, 1926 in Mckague, Saskatchewan, and raised and educated in Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan. She moved to Winnipeg to continue her education and obtained her Nursing Diploma. This led to work in healthcare and as a flight attendant with Trans Canada Airlines, from which she had to resign when she got married. During the Second World War, she began writing letters to a young US Navy man named Robert Mills. They were married on May 23, 1950 in the middle of the 1950 Winnipeg Flood, and were married for 63 years. While raising her young family, Anne returned to school and received a Certificate in Public Health. She then spent many years with the Victorian Order of Nurses. Once retired, Anne and Bob travelled extensively across Canada and the US spending many winters in Arizona. Anne also took a very special trip to Europe with her sister Jean and niece Helen. Anne's love of trees is legendary among family and friends. She could talk for hours about the many trees that her and Bob planted on their island at Pelican Pouch Lake! Grandma was so proud that her granddaughter Meghan was following in her footsteps with her love of trees and nature. A private family service has taken place. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Our most sincere condolences go out to Ken, Ray and their families. Lloyd and I have often thought about Anne and her family and are sorry to have lost touch. We have very fond memories of Anne ,Bob and family over the 16 years living next door to two special people who became like family. Anne and I,being a nurse as well had many stories and experiences to share. Anne was a friend to ask advice from, whether it be about plants,a recipe or what my kids were up to when Lloyd and I weren't home. Anne was often my "second pair" of eyes. Anne liked to teach about nature when our family would visit at the lake. Mark and Jennifer as well as ourselves have many fond memories of times spent at Pelican Pouch and the generous couple who shared their special place with us. May you rest in peace Anne. Fondly remembered by your Hoddinott neighbours, the Tokles - Posted by: Janice & Lloyd Tokle (Friends & East St.Paul Neighbours) on: Mar 11, 2019

  • We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Ray and Ken and their families, as well as to the extended family. We have nothing but found memories of Anne as a kind and considerate woman, who cared deeply about her family and fiends.
