ANNE MACKENZIE May 7, 1942 - September 11, 2018 With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Anne Mackenzie. Born in The Hague, Netherlands as Johanna Wilhelmina Waagenaar, she moved to Canada at age 10 with her family. She is survived by her son James Perkins (Joanne), her grandchildren, Hayley, Thomas and Jillian, siblings, Ben, Mike, Marianne (John), Willie (Phil), Nick and John (Sandra), and many nieces and nephews. She was a loving and devoted mother and Nana. She was very proud of her grandchildren, and would be happy to tell you all about them. She was creative, loved fashion, design, and was an avid reader. Music was a big part of family gatherings with singing, instruments, dancing and fun. Remembering her singing fun Dutch songs, or singing a song to the grandchildren at bedtime are precious memories. We are sad she left us so suddenly, she will be very missed. We love you Mom, Nana, Anne.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I never got the chance to see Nana again in person for years; I've only been able to see pictures or hear her voice on the phone. Had I known what was about to happen, I would've loved for her to have visited again before she left us. Whenever she visited, usually in Spring or Christmas, it was always a joy seeing her. Her songs, her kind personality, and her genuine love for her family were very touching. Sometimes it surprised her when she heard the voices of her grandchildren now older than she remembered, once asking me "what happened to my little boy?". Sometimes she couldn't visit, as she made money by making wonderful dolls, and sometimes didn't have enough for a plane, and she had recently developed a fear of flying, so it made things difficult for her to do. She would often call us on our birthdays, wishing us a happy one, and we would wish her a happy one too. She often smoked a cigarette, and hadn't been able to quit no matter what she tried, and it may have factored into her death. Again, I wish I could've seen her in person before the day she died, but as many people have said, as long as a loved one is cherished and remembered, they will never leave you. May God bless my Nana, and may we celebrate her wonderful life. - Posted by: Thomas Perkins (Grandson) on: Sep 15, 2018
