ALVIN HORNUNG After spending a fantastic day surrounded by family and great friends, Alvin passed away unexpectedly late in the evening on Friday, September 14, 2018. Alvin was predeceased by the woman he loved so very dearly, June Hornung (nee Bodman), after 57 years of marriage, as well as his infant son Joseph, his father Michael, mother Anne, brother Gilbert, twin sisters, Beatrice and Bernice, his father-in-law Edward, mother-in-law Florence and his sister-in-law Trudy. Alvin leaves behind so many people that loved him and will miss him incredibly, especially his daughter Debbie Chiborak (Curtis), son David (Allison), daughter Christine, foster son John, his twin brother Allan (Renie), sister Geraldine (Bart), foster brother Norman (Sheila), brothers-in-law, Frank Reimer (Noreen) and Don Bodman (Terry). He also leaves behind his most cherished of all, his pride and joy, his grandchildren Jennifer Wesley (Scott), Sarah Chiborak, Alexis Hornung, Jett, Kayson and Dallin Hornung; and his great-grandson Grayson Wesley. There are so many to list, but know he loved all of his family, his nieces and nephews, and all of his amazing friends. Alvin was born on October 25, 1937 in Grayson, Saskatchewan, the family moved to Melville, Saskatchewan in 1943, and finally settled in Winnipeg in 1947. Alvin was a hard working man that began working as a young teenager and continued working for various places like Victoria Leather, Red Patch Taxi, plumbing side jobs with his father-in-law Eddie, but ultimately spent the majority of his career (over 30 years) working for Westburne Plumbing and Heating (now Wolseley), where he retired in 2003. Those that knew Alvin, know that he was a generous, loving, thoughtful man that would help anyone that needed. He leaves behind so many cherished memories with everyone that crossed his path. He loved going on family vacations when his kids were young and spending time with them at West Hawk Lake as they grew up with their own families. Alvin sure loved his infamous "Boys" weekends, where we are told they went fishing, played golf, and even caught some Daytona races in Florida, however, what happens in Vegas.... you know the rest. Alvin was a regular at the local watering hole, in those times, we are told all of the world's greatest issues were solved. A special thank you to his dear friends the Wilsons, as well as the Winnipeg Fire Department and paramedics on behalf of Alvin's family. We appreciate your efforts and assistance. We would like to invite you to share your stories with us, and celebrate this amazing man on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at the Transcona Country Club, Manitoba Room, 2070 Dugald Road, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!
