Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAULINA (POLLY) FISHER (nee BANGART) Born: March 13, 1920, Oakbank, Manitoba Polly passed away peacefully on September 24, 2018 at the McKenzie Towne Care Centre, Calgary, Alberta. Polly is survived by her sons, Carl (Mae) and Wayne (Therese); grandchildren, Dina (Walter), Shelley (Richard), Darin (Belinda), Dawn, Kelvin (Tamera), Quentin (Michelle), Amanda (Bill), Tamie (Steve) and Jodie (Graham); daughter-in-law Bev and grandson-in-law Mark; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Polly was predeceased by her husband Osmond (Ozz), of 61 years; daughter Joan; son in-law Sonny Dunlop; grandson Darcy Fisher; great-grandson Thomas Pugh; and grandson-in-law Kevin Weselak. Also, she was previously predeceased by her father Karl and mother Emma (nee Roche); sisters, Martha Mathews (Lawrence), Mabel Oswald (Bill) and Ruth. Before Karl Bangart married Polly's mother he was married to Carlena Mattron. They had eight children who were Polly's stepsisters and brothers and included: Minnie Smith (Bill), Kate Berube (Bill), Sophie Smith (Mike), Carlena Salmon (Bob), Bill, John, Charlie and Henry Bangart (Martha). After Polly's mother passed away her father married Julia Schwartz. They had two sons, Jimmy and Edward who were Polly's stepbrothers; this part of the family predeceased Polly. On her husband's side of the family Polly was predeceased by her father and mother-in-law Alfred and Mary Fisher, sisters-in-law, Wynne Crossman (Edgar), Maude Habing (Gerald), Sybil Garbut (Fred); and brothers-in-law, Harry Fisher (Pearl) and Buddy. Polly started her life on a farm in the Oakbank area of Manitoba but, in early childhood, moved to Cloverleaf after her mother passed away when she was three. Her father remarried and at five she had a new mother and a new family to enjoy her childhood years. However she ventured into the working world at 13 to support herself doing domestic duties at various homes in the Hazelridge area. During her time working in the Hazelridge area, she met and married Osmond (Ozz) Fisher June 11, 1940. They lived for a short time in Transcona, but eventually took over the family farm in 1943. Three children were born to Ozz and Polly... Carl, Joan and Wayne. During this time, life was extremely busy and Polly was determined to keep in touch with all of the extended family, help out unfortunate people, participate in community activities, harvest and can a large garden, have a teacher reside with them and tend to her aging in-laws. After the children grew up and left home Polly and Ozz retired to Transcona and Polly worked in a nursing home. She also did daycare duties from her home for a number of years. During retirement she took up leisure activities including square dancing, travelling, knitting for the Christmas hampers in Winnipeg, tended a small garden and enjoyed an ever faithful dog. Her biggest achievement, in her eyes, was the interaction she enjoyed with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who fondly remember this unique, hard working and determined lady. A few years after Ozz's passing, Joan and Sonny moved to Strathmore, Alberta and shortly thereafter, Polly moved to Strathmore as well. After her 90th birthday, in 2010, Polly moved to the McKenzie Towne Care Centre in Calgary. The family has been grateful for the care and compassion afforded Polly by Dr. Mark Susnowski and the staff at the centre. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service for her will be held in Winnipeg at a later date. If family or friends so desire, memorial tributes in honour of Polly may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, (www. alzheimer.mb.ca). Darin and Belinda and Dawn: We are so sorry to have learned of the passing of your Nanny. We had met Nanny and Pappy several times through our friendship with your parents. When you were here last fall Dawn, we had asked how Nanny was doing and at that time considering her age she was doing fairly well. We had thought of her often as we often think of you. Sincerely Fred and Gerry Trapp - Posted by: Fred and Gerry Trapp (Friends of Joan and Sonny Dunlop) on: Oct 03, 2018
