CECILE MARIE BARTLETTE (nee GREGOIRE) October 8, 1919 - September 24, 2018 Peacefully on September 24, 2018, at Misericordia Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Cécile Bartlette (nee Grégoire) passed away 15 days short of her upcoming 99th birthday - October 8 (Thanksgiving Day). Born in St. Jean-Baptiste, Manitoba to Victor and Léoda (nee Rajotte) Grégoire, Mom was one of eight children. During her young adult life Mom took on the responsibility to look after her younger siblings following the early death of her mother. Mom made sure that everyone in the immediate family thought of her as someone they could always count on. To this day relatives who knew her well pay tribute for the noble efforts that she made during those difficult times. As the family grew older, Mom moved to Winnipeg and at that time met and later married Daniel Baptiste Bartlette (Danny), where they began their family and raised six children to adulthood. Mom was one of the kindest, loving and nurturing mothers anyone could wish for. Mom always made sure that her children were cared for first above all and made sure we were always well fed (great cook), nicely clothed (and tidy), and as comfortable and safe as she possibly could. We would suspect that part of her personality came from her experiences when she was at home in St. Jean with her family. It is apparent to us now as we reflect that her siblings, who we came to know later in life, were as dedicated to, and loving of all their children, as was Mom. They treasured each other's lives and families as they would their own. Mom always enjoyed having the relatives over for those special holidays and get-togethers and went out of her way to make sure that the dinners were the best possible and the humour was abundant. Mom was a devout Catholic and her religion and church were always a very special part of her life. She enjoyed participating in her church groups and religious events. Aside from being a great cook, Mom enjoyed gardening (grew gigantic tomatoes) and sewing was something she excelled at. Mom made us a lot of 'tops'. Mom and Dad had the opportunity to travel in their later years when the kids started families of their own. Europe was a definite highlight as well as several winters spent in Phoenix, Arizona. Mom also spent time visiting son Tom and his family in California. We are truly happy that Mom was afforded that time to relax and enjoy herself. Mom, without a doubt, deserved it. Mom is survived by her brother Gérald Grégoire of Winnipeg, her sons, Jack (Gail) Bartlette, Danny Jr. (Martha) Bartlette, Glen (Linda) Bartlette, Tom (Debi) Bartlette of Valencia, CA, and her daughters, Joan Black and Diane Johnson all of Winnipeg. Mom is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. Mom was predeceased by her brothers, Louis-Phillipe (infant), Armand and Léo, and sisters, Germaine (Turenne), Denise (Bélanger) and Solange (Smith). Her loving husband Danny passed away in 1992. In accordance with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the E. J. Coutu & Co. Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choosing. The family would like to thank Barb and the dedicated staff at Misericordia Place Personal Care Home for looking after our mom during her time spent with them. We are sure that there was a special place in Heaven that awaited her. We will always remember you Mom. Love, your family. E.J. COUTU & CO. • To the family, Tante Cécile was such a wonderful, kind and funny woman indeed. This obituary was so beautifully written and epitomizes the beautiful person she truly was. Her dedication and devotion to family was most certainly passed along to her siblings. So many of her wonderful traits were definitely passed along to our dear maman Denise. May she rest in peace and be once again reunited with all of her loved ones. Love you and miss you Tante Cécile xox - Posted by: Pauline Belanger (Niece and goddaughter ) on: Sep 30, 2018
