MICHAEL SAMUEL HYSKA 1929 - 2018 On Monday, October 1, 2018, Mike finally won his hard-fought battle against Alzheimer's and is now at peace. He was born on December 5, 1929 to Alice and John of Gilbert Plains. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his siblings, Anne, Bill, Marie, Fred and Lil. Mike lives on in the hearts of the absolute love of his life, Cathy, his wife of 67 years, sons, Brian (Jude Davies) and Elliott, grandsons, Cole and Landan, and so many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Mike and Cathy started their family in Winnipeg but in 1971, Mike accepted a position with Modern Dairies, which took Cathy and the boys to Thompson. Although Mike and Cathy moved back to Winnipeg in 1994, their connection to the north remained through their friends and the family cabin at Paint Lake, where Mike loved to fish. In later years, they enjoyed new friends and warm winters in Arizona. Mike will be remembered as strong and hardworking. He was a get-to-it kind of man, always busy, always willing to help and to that end was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. Mike was a salesman who loved a great deal, a good joke and telling stories, which were often followed by his mischievous laugh. Above all, Mike will be remembered as a doting husband, a hands-on, supportive, fiercely protective and loving dad and, in turn, grandpa. Mike's raison d'être was his family, whom he loved so very dearly and by whom he will be missed so very much. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at Christ the King Church, 847 St. Mary's Road, St. Vital on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior.
