JOSEPHINE JACKSON (EDGAR) Josephine Jackson passed away at her Winnipeg residence October 6, 2018. Jo Jackson was born Josephine Marinzel December 11, 1925 in the former Yugoslavia (now Slovenia) to her beloved parents, Leopold and Josephine Marinzel. Due to the Depression, her parents needed to emigrate without the children in 1930. In 1933, at the ages of ten, nine and seven, the children travelled without adult accompaniment by boat and train to join their parents in their new country. This experience developed a solid foundation of independence and appreciation of parental sacrifice and of the opportunities of living in Canada. Throughout their lives, the three children, Leah (Maruca), Leo Marinzel and Jo were very close. Jo married John (Jack) Russel Edgar June 19, 1948 and were very happily married until Jack's premature passing in 1966. They had three children: Bryan, Catherine and Ronald. Although a young widow of 41 with three dependents, Jo studied accounting and tax law at night while working full time at the federal tax office (now CRA) in downtown Winnipeg. Jo would often take taxation books to bed at night to study because she wanted to be on top of tax law changes. Jo lost her eldest son Bryan in a car accident in BC in 1975. In 1973 Jo met Tommy Jackson and enjoyed many new friendships. They married in 1976. A very happy consequence of this marriage was her "inheritance" of a wonderful granddaughter, Andora Jackson. Jo's most important characteristics were her humbleness, sincerity, helpfulness and positive outlook. Jo took great pleasure in seeing her grandchildren, baking (mostly muffins) and playing bridge. She was able to play bridge until a few days prior to her passing and played her bridge hands amazingly well. Long vacations to visit her daughter in the Keys and Delray Beach or to her son's home in Colorado provided happy memories for all. Jo will be forever missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind her son Dr. Ronald (Ron) Edgar (Yanita Rowan) of Denver, CO, daughter Catherine Jorgens (formerly Cathy Edgar) of Delray Beach, FL, nieces, Nancy Maruca and Marilyn Barthlette of Winnipeg, grandsons, Reis Chase of Calgary and Jack Edgar of Nelson, BC, and granddaughter Dr. Andora Jackson (J. Waschuk) of The Pas, Manitoba. Interment has taken place. A celebration of her life is planned for Spring, 2019.
