Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTANLEY R. SCARR March 23, 1931 - October 10, 2018 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Stanley Scarr, who passed away at home on October 10, 2018, with his family by his side. Stan leaves to mourn his loving wife of 63 years, Lorraine, son Jeffrey Scarr (Deborah), daughters, Patricia Scarr (Peter Dorrins) and Sandra Scarr (Glenn Zirk), grandchildren, Jonathan, Rachel, Rochelle, Lauren, and his two sisters, Barbara Picken (Robert) and Diane Brown (Jack), along with many nieces and nephews. Stan was predeceased by his parents, Stan and Ivy Scarr in 2004, and by his sister Bernice Parbery in 2005. In the early 1950s Stan began working at International Harvester where he met, fell in love with, and proposed to Lorraine Ronald. On December 16, 1953 Stan began what would become a 37-year career when he joined the Winnipeg Police Force. One year later Stan and Lorraine married on December 4, 1954 in Winnipeg. In 2017 they celebrated 63 years of marriage. Stan's strong sense of duty and commitment to service became evident as he rose from the rank of Constable to Deputy Chief of Police by 1981. Wherever he was asked to serve he did so with integrity, skill, perseverance and success. Stan's interests were broad, and his belief in building community found outlets within and outside of police service. In 1968 Stan became a Director for the Winnipeg City Police Athletic Association followed by serving as President of the Winnipeg Police Association and the Manitoba Police Association in 1972. In 1974, Stan served as President of the Canadian Police Association Board of Directors. One of his greatest accomplishments during this time was the creation of the Police Service Pension and the Widow's Benefit, both of which remain in effect today. Stan was an integral part of the Winnipeg Police Credit Union for over 43 years, 29 of which he served as President of the Board. He served as a Director for Credit Union Central of Canada where he represented Manitoba's Credit Unions. In 2002 Stan was the first Manitoban inducted into the Canadian Credit Union Hall of Fame. Stan was a man who believed in people and led by example. During the 1960s, Stan was a Cub Leader with the 129th Morse Place Cub and Scout Group. Stan served as Director and later Chairperson of the Good Neighbours Club of Winnipeg for 12 years. He was involved with the Citizenship Council of Manitoba for 24 years, helping newcomers to Canada settle in the Winnipeg area. For over 20 years Stan was a regular at the Christmas Cheer Board where he is remembered for his kindness, hard work and dry sense of humour. At the age of 57, Stan graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Justice and Law and Administrative Studies. Stan had a passion for history, political science, and current affairs. He was an avid reader and analytical thinker. Stan spent over 30 years as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Winnipeg Police Museum and Historical Society. He had an active and influential role in its creation and ongoing development. He enjoyed building projects from their first tent trailer to chicken pens and house renovations. Stan loved to take trips with his family, often travelling and camping throughout Canada and the United States. Family was very important to Stan and he and Lorraine have been a constant and cherished presence in the lives of their children and grandchildren. Stan was a man of integrity, compassion and honour. He is loved deeply by his family and will be missed profoundly. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, (204) 885-9715. As a friend of Stanley's son my heart goes out to the whole Scarr family and anyone who had the pleasure to know Stanley. I may never have met him, but if he is anything like his son I can only regret not having that honour. In reading about him I get to see how wonderful a man he was and know he will be truly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. - Posted by: Anthony (Friend to Stanley's son) on: Oct 23, 2018
