FRANCE LEMAY (née VERMETTE) 1926 - 2018 Peacefully, and surrounded by her family, France Anne Lemay passed away on October 11, 2018 at the age of 92. France will be lovingly remembered by her husband Emilien (Frenchie) Sibilleau of Tyndall, MB, with whom she happily shared her last eight years. Also to cherish her memory are her children: Michelle (Tony), Janine (Harry), Paulette (Denis), Roland (Patricia) and Jacqueline (Darcy), 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as Emilien's two daughters, Diane and Corinne (Martin) and his two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband of 59 years, Pierre Lemay, her parents, Philomene (nee Gladu) and Augustin Vermette, her in-laws Blanche (nee Provencher) and Arthur Lemay, her siblings, Augustine, Jean-Marie, Elise, Toussaint (Ted), Lucien, Irene, Estelle, Donat and Antoine, and her son-in-law Dr. Cary Lam. We will remember Mom for her 'joie de vivre', her love of family, culture and the French language. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, weaving and outdoor activities. She was proud of and inspired by her Métis heritage and her great-uncle Louis Riel. She volunteered her leadership skills to different organizations that reflected her values. France was a fun, feisty, fearless, faith and family-oriented, formidable woman. Her love of nature was highlighted by the most spectacular Manitoba sunset moments before her passing. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital and also the Misericordia Health Centre for the compassionate comfort care provided to our dear mother. Viewing will take place at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at the St. Boniface Cathedral on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Métis Historical Society, 67 Richfield Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2M 2R9 or to a charity of your choice. Dear Lemay family. I am so sorry for your loss of France, the "old doll". She was definitely one of a kind. I remember cross-country skiing with her once in Woodridge. We were well into the trail when we heard hunters' gunshots. France was wearing a buckskin coat and said "Oh oh! I look pretty much like a deer. We better get out of here!" We had a good chuckle and a vigorous workout on our way back! May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Yvonne lemay (former daughter-in-law) on: Oct 18, 2018
