PETER MAXIM YARISH April 9, 1945 - October 12, 2018 After a sudden illness, Peter passed away on October 12, 2018 in Winnipeg. Predeceased by his parents, Mike and Anna Yarish, he leaves behind his cousin Tony Kohanski and special friend Ev Strong. Peter had a deep love for his father and the train rides to Grand Beach with Tony's family. He loved early mornings, saying it was the best time of day. Trained as an accountant, Peter's nature lead him to self-employment. He loved helping small businesses with their accounting, tax forms and computer issues. He was also passionate about exotic cars and car races with lots of stories about his travelling days and the racing circuit. Peter had an avid interest in the news, constantly reading the NY Times, Winnipeg Free Press and LA Times, to name just a few. And Peter was a foodie. He loved Maxime's liver and onions, the ribs at Tony Roma's, the blue steak at Hy's, the original Jeannie's cake, red twizzlers and he always had an apple pie in the house. Peter loved country music, classic rock, classic cars, Big Dave McLean, popcorn with cheddar cheese, antiques and blue jeans. Saturday afternoons were often spent listening to opera. He followed the Tour de France, always commenting on the fantastic scenery in the background. We will celebrate his life on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I remember PETER (TONY KOHANSKI'S COUSIN) as a polite & soft spoken person. PETER would often visit TONY. I believe TONY'S mother used to call PETER (PEACHY). A very nice person has sadly left us. As our school days passed, I regret that I did not keep in touch with TONY & therefore I did not get to know PETER that well. - Posted by: RICHARD SIDORCHUK (PETER was a cousin to TONY KOHANSKI & TONY was a class-mate & friend yrs. ago) on: Nov 27, 2018

  • Peter will be missed so much for so many reasons. We have a difficult time looking out our window and now knowing Peter is not going to be outside parking or washing his cars. I will miss his voice saying hello to me and talking about the weather today and whether we approve of it not. Peter always loved my flowers that I planted and told me so often. Our pets were always special to Peter and when they were not with us any more, Peter was always someone we could share happy and sad memories about them. Peter was a wonderful neighbour and we will both miss him so much each in our special way. We are thankful to have had Peter to enjoy for so many wonderful years and he will be missed by our entire family. Our condolences to you Tony on this loss and also to Ev. • We never knew Peter, but having read his obituary, we now feel he's an old friend. Being from Winnipeg, his life reflects a lot of our life. We've done the train rides to Grand Beach (Sandy Hook, too), beautiful mornings, the Winnipeg Free Press (knew the Dafoe sisters, John's daughters), Hy's Steak House, Jeannie's Bakery, the Texaco Broadcasts of the Met every Saturday afternoon, the scenery of the Tour de France. He had a beautiful life, and it was just like a stroll through our own memories. Our best wishes to his family and friends as you celebrate his life. - Posted by: David Knowles (memories) on: Oct 20, 2018
