JOHN JOSEPH PATRICK LAVERY
Born: Jul 03, 1946
Date of Passing: Oct 21, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN JOSEPH PATRICK LAVERY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Lavery on October 21, 2018, peacefully in the home of his daughter, after a long three year battle with cancer. John is survived by his wife Beth, daughter Jennifer (Rod), son Sean (Kristen), stepchildren, Curtis (Chantel) and Samantha, grandchildren, Brittany (Aaron), Jessica, Emily, Kaitlyn, Gabrielle, Alexis and Lochlan, and great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Seth and Ariel. John was born on July 3, 1946 in London, England and grew up in the town of Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. In 1956 at the age of nine, he along with is parents, Murtagh and Kathleen Lavery and sister Bernadette immigrated to Canada. They settled in Winnipeg on Oxford Street in River Heights and a few years later, his sister Moira was born. In 1969 John became the proud father of Jennifer and Sean in 1972. John created his own plumbing agency from the ground up, J. L. Sales which quickly made him a very important part of Winnipeg's business community. He was lucky enough to have a beautiful cottage at Falcon Lake to enjoy family time. He found happiness again with his wife Beth later in life and spent his final years between Toronto, Falcon Lake and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Our thanks to Dr. Piotr Czaykowski and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba for their support. Thank you to palliative care and Thomson Funeral Home for their sensitivity and caring in our time of need. Cremation has taken place and he will be returned to the place that brought him much peace, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. A small and intimate Irish wake will take place in the home of his daughter Jennifer on Friday, October 26 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. For details please contact Sean Lavery at seanlavery0312@gmail.com or 204-479-4260. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you think of someone who you love and have lost touch with, and take the time to reach out to them.

I just read about John's passing today. I was John's best man at his wedding. We met the week he moved to Winnipeg and were close friends until I moved to California in 1969. John and I spent 100's of hours planning our life with big dreams and master plans. We had planned a tentative trip to Puerta Vallarta but never heard back. Childhood friends can not be replaced. My memories of our childhood will never go away but I am very sorry that work got in the way of spending time in recent years with John, a big part of my growing up in Winnipeg. I loved the kindness his parents and family showed me. Ray Gervais - Posted by: Ray Gervais (Childhood best friend) on: May 21, 2020

Sean, I am truely sorry for your loss. I first met John in 1981, when I first worked in retail and he used to call on us, we got along well and he was a very enjoyable person to talk to, always with a quick wit. I was fortunate enough to meet him again, by accident in Grand Forks and although we hadn't seen each other in some 30 years, he still remembered me. That's the type of man he was and I will never forget that. - Posted by: Lou Felicioni (Friend) on: Oct 25, 2018
