KAREN ELSIE LAJEUNESSE JUNGKIND June 17, 1948 - October 23, 2018 Peacefully with family at her side, Karen stepped into eternity. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband and best 'buddy', Karl, brother Mitch (Jayne), Karl's sisters, Anne, Rose, Ellen and their husbands, John, Robert and Brian respectively. Dan Bannish (Jen), her extended Lajeunesse family, numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Karen was predeceased by Henry (Hank) Lajeunesse, her parents, John and Gail Madill, sister Terrie Smith Rueckert and her precious daughter Andrea. Karen was born in Port Arthur, Ontario. Her family moved to Atikokan, Ontario where she completed high school. She then returned to Fort William to take her Medical Lab Technologist training and began her career in Red Deer, Alberta. There she met and married Hank Lajeunesse and later took up residence in Fort St. John, BC. After Hank's untimely death, she relocated to Winnipeg where she gave birth to their daughter Andrea. She later met and married Karl Jungkind on July 28, 1986 and together they raised daughter Andrea. Karen and Karl suffered a tragic loss on November 18, 2010 when their only daughter Andrea was killed by a drunk driver. Karen and Karl were avid travellers. They loved to try out new food and experience new places. Karen loved road trips, flying trips, really any kind of trip as long as she and Karl were on it together. Karen enjoyed gardening and was a very talented, self-taught crafter and enjoyed sewing for herself and her family. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Springs Church, 595 Lagimodiere Blvd. The family would like to thank Dr. Moltzon, Dr. Margaret Weiss and the CancerCare nurses at St. Boniface CancerCare and Dr. Alexander at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre and all the wonderful nurses and staff who took such good care of Karen in her final days and hours as she battled her cancer. • Karl and Mitch and Jane and family, we offer our deepest condolences and prayers for Karen. My first memories of her are as our babysitter. She was our favourite for sure! With her parents, John and Gail, and my parents, Murray and Anne, being such good lifelong friends, it is like you were my big sister. I know Mom and Dad would agree that you were like another daughter, especially in the last few decades. Karl we are all so thankful that you came into her life. Your love and time together put that beautiful smile on her face and sparkle in her eyes. We are all sad that she was taken from us so soon, and yet we take comfort from imagining what great reunion hugs her and Andi are having now. Thinking of you all and wishing much peace, Deanna and Erv - Posted by: Deanna and Erv Wiebe (Family friend) on: Oct 26, 2018

  • Our deepest deepest condolences Karl, Karen was like a daughter to us and left us much too soon. Remember your good times and how much you enjoyed each other not only as a couple but as "very best of friends". Karen brought such infectious happiness to all who knew her and radiated such warmth towards everyone. She was our babysitter as a teenager and oh how we enjoyed your many visits. We, like yourself, will miss her terribly but know that she is now at peace with Andi. Our deepest sympathy Karl and our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time.
