He studied as a teacher at the Normal School in Winnipeg and taught in many small one-roomed schools before moving to Winnipeg where he taught at Beaumont School in Charleswood as a teacher/principal. He also worked as a machine operator for Blackwood's Beverages and the City of Winnipeg. He retired in 1991. All of his married life was spent in the St. James area. He coordinated baseball and hockey for eight to ten-year-old boys. He spent countless hours meticulously preparing diamonds so that the boys had great places to play. He supported, encouraged and watched his children and grandchildren in their sporting endeavours. He spent many hours between hockey rinks, baseball diamonds, figure skating venues and riding stables. Many thanks to Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Mr. Sokalski was my principal and grade six teacher fifty years ago, during his last full year of teaching. He was a wise and caring individual who went out of his way to encourage and provide extra help to a classmate who had arrived from the Netherlands and remains grateful. About ten years ago, I met Mr. Sokalski again when he was having coffee with my father in St. James. I spoke to him on the telephone once after that and told him it was an honour to know him. I wish his family peace and strength during this time. I live in Alberta and cannot attend the service. - Posted by: Bill Stevens (Former student) on: Nov 05, 2018
