LAWRENCE (LARRY) JOHN BUGERA October 14, 1951 November 5, 2018 Words cannot express the sadness we feel as we announce Larry's unexpected passing. Although he had a big heart, it could not pull him through what has now changed our lives forever. Larry was Murielle's great love and the father of Ivan, Daniel (Anja), Jacqueline (Bruno) and Valerie (Colin). He is the Pepère of Sébastien, Philippa (mother Fiona), Matéo and Nicholas (our little Danish grandson). Pepère was also looking forward to bébé Maynard in January. Larry was predeceased by his father John in 1977 and his mother Frances (Homeniuk) in 2009. He leaves behind his sisters Donna and Jennifer; his brothers Georges (Sue - Samantha, Cara, Michael), Terry (Kurt, mother Linda) and Robert; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jacques and Colette Préfontaine; in-laws Lynne (Gilles Péloquin) and Gabriel (Inge); nieces and nephews: Éric (Clode), Rémi (Natalie), Jenelle, Sara, Èva; as well as many cousins from near and far. Larry cherished his long-time friendships through his 23 years of being a councillor for the R.M. of De Salaberry. His biggest passion though was the love of farming; he was so proud to have passed on his farm to his son Ivan. With more time on his hands, he was now looking forward to many trips to Denmark and spending more time with his grandchildren. Funeral mass will be celebrated at the St. Pierre Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, November 10, at 1:00 p.m. Private interment will follow immediately after. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Pierre Hospital Foundation. The family wishes to thank all who cared so much for him on Monday ... De Salaberry District Health Centre Staff, STARS and St. Boniface General Hospital Emergency and Cardiac Teams.

  • To the entire Bugera family Murielle, Donna, Jennifer, George, Terry, Robert and each of their children - please accept heatfelt condolences and hugs from the Warbanski Family. Our family grew up on a farm near Dufrost. Our farmyard was directly across the road from the Bugera farm yard. They were our closest neighbours. The entire Bugera family were wonderful people. One couldn't find nicer neighbours. As young kids we played almost every day with Donna, Larry and Terry. We walked to school together, walked barefoot on the road with mud squishing between our toes (before the roads were gravelled). We threw rocks at the wasp nests, rode our bikes, built a tree house and tried our hand at barnyard rodeo! Then our families both moved - the Bugeras to St Pierre and our family to East Kildonan. Each year, both families would come back to farm our respective lands at Dufrost. Robert and Jennifer were born around the time we moved but we did see all of them from time to time. John and Francis Bugera were always the nicest people. John teased us occasionally - always with a smile on his face. Francis was always shy, gentle, generous and gracious. We know that Larry was a good farmer, very hard working just like his dad and always quick to smile about something. Larry will be missed. Please accept our warmest hugs and love. • Very sorry to hear this news. When I think back of the many times our paths crossed over the years, usually at farm meetings, I remember Larry as the man with "smiling eyes." Larry didn't often share what he was thinking about the topic of the day; he wasn't one to impose his views on others. But there was a sparkle there, a quiet energy — maybe even a hint of mischief — that said he was taking it all in, and thinking about it all the way home. It was clear that his interest in agriculture went beyond making a living; Larry cared deeply for their land and for their community. He and Murielle explored many options during their farming career together for how those pieces can fit together holistically. It was not an easy path, but they chose it anyway. My thoughts and prayers are with Murielle and their family. - Posted by: Laura Rance (Friend) on: Nov 08, 2018

  • So sorry to hear of Larry's passing. All of us Roy and Bugera kids spent many hours going back and forth between the two farms growing up. We learned each other's language - Ukrainian and French- often confusing both sets of parents as they could not understand what we were saying. I remember Larry as a kind, quiet and genuine person and he has been taken too young. My sincerest sympathies to Donna, Jennifer, George, Terry, and Robert and to Murielle, kids and grandkids. Although I won't be attending service, you will all be in my thoughts. - Posted by: Helene Roy Rohn (Neighbor growing up) on: Nov 08, 2018

  • So very sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. Sincerest condolences to Murielle and her family, and to Donna, George, Terry, Robert and Jennifer and their families. We, Gerry Roy’s family, grew up as close neighbours to the Bugera family and had many days of playing with the Bugera kids growing up. Larry was older than I but nevertheless present. I was in school at the same time as Murielle, who was a leader even then. Such great memories. May your love and memories of Larry bring you peace, comfort, and healing in the days to come.
