LEONARD (LEN) YACHISON It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Leonard Yachison, at the age of 83 on the evening of October 31, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Sonja; son Glenn (Ida); daughter Rhonda (Andrew); grandsons, Derek and Trevor; nephews, Wayne and Brian (daughter Vanessa, Mark and son Cole); niece Donna (Mike and family), and his many lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his father Wasyl, mother Mary; sisters, Anne and Elsie; brothers, John and Michael; and niece Evelyn (Ziggy and Cassandra). He will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts. Leonard was born in Winnipeg on October 13, 1935. He spent most of his life in Transcona, where he built a home and raised his family. As a young man Leonard had many jobs, including working at Gordie's garage, CN, The Board of Grain Commissioners and the Department of National Defense. In 1967 he joined the Canadian Red Cross (Canadian Blood Services), where he worked until his retirement in 2001. Len was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He loved spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was most proud of his two grandsons and would wish them all the best in their future endeavours. On a typical Saturday afternoon, you could find Len in his garage, "puttering away" on one of the many projects he had on the go. One of his greatest memories was spending time at the cottage in Lac du Bonnet, also working on projects with the help of Wayne and Brian, and entertaining numerous guests. Len and Sonja also had the opportunity to travel extensively, visiting many locations including Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Europe, Florida, Grand Forks, and Fargo. They were privileged to have met many new friends, some of which are still in contact today. Len was a lifelong Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan and was a season ticket holder since 1974. His son Glenn and nephew Brian continue to carry on the tradition. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club (K40), participating in many fundraising events over the years. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful support Len received from friends and family during his illness, specifically Heather and Jerry Grimes, Jack and Dorothy Quail, John Kozakevich (and family), Mike Kot, Jim Sesak, and Julian and Lyn Woligroski. The family would also like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, Deer Lodge and Concordia Hospital for the care and compassion he received. The WRHA nurses who looked after Len in homecare were excellent, especially Nav. Cremation has taken place and a private family service was held at Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in memory of Leonard may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation. E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.ca
