JEAN MARY STEWART It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a remarkable woman, Jean Mary Stewart (Rylance) on November 7, 2018. Jean is lovingly remembered by her husband John, daughter Christine (Scott), son Bill (Joy) and her precious grandchildren, Thomas, Stefanie, Cassandra, Avery and Raquel. She will also be missed by her dear nieces, Jennifer and Bonnie Rylance. She was predeceased by her father Charles, mother Annie and her siblings, William and Christine. Jean was born in Blue Sky, AB and was raised in a sod house in the middle of "the bald prairie", then later moved to Whitelaw and finally to Edmonton. Jean was proud to have taught school in northern Alberta and then to have joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War, working in the Paymasters office "paying the boys". After the war she worked with the Federal Government. During this time, she and her dear sister Christine travelled to Europe, a special trip that Mum fondly recalled for the rest of her life. While working for the government, she met John. They were married in 1960 and she left her job to stay home and raise her family. In 1971, John was transferred to Winnipeg. Jean was an active member of St. Luke's Anglican Church and a dedicated volunteer, for many years collecting for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. "Gramma" adored her grandchildren and was so very proud of them; they will miss her so much. Jean will be remembered for her love of life, sense of humour and delicious home baking. Her stories will live on in our memories just as she will be forever in our hearts. Our sincere appreciation to the staff at Riverwood Square, especially Linda and Janice for their support over the last five years and our eternal gratitude to the incredible staff at Poseidon Care Home who cared for Mum in her final days. Yvonne and Christian, you are amazing. A celebration of Jean's life will be held Friday, November 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
