Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHITRAWATIA DABEE Chitrawatia Dabee, also known as Tara, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2018 at the age of 94 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Tara, the eldest of 11 children, was born on September 28, 1924 in Mahaica, Guyana to Sancharie and Sadhu Narine of Victoria Village. Tara attended Victoria Roman Catholic School and was an excellent student. In 1939, she married Premraj Dabee of Vigilance and together they were blessed with 11 children. Tara always had a heart for helping others. Apart from raising her children with her husband in Vigilance, she was a community leader, humanitarian, seamstress, landlord, farmer, Hindi teacher, and midwife. She helped women to set up a microfinancing system which helped many families to acquire their own homes and pay for their children's education. As a seamstress, she crafted numerous wedding dresses and taught young women sewing. She was deeply religious and an ardent volunteer at the Annandale Aryan Samaj Mandir as a Hindi religious instructor. Tara was a formidable yet loving woman who rented one of her two houses to families for only a nominal rental fee. Through her exemplary acts of kindness and compassion, most of these tenants became part of her family and lovingly referred to her as Ma, Mama, Agee, or Auntie Tara. Tara was a brave and courageous woman, but also a loving nurturer to her children. She was fortunate to have had a learned and supportive husband, Premraj, who recognized her leadership qualities early in their marriage. While being a dedicated community leader and volunteer, she was always there for her children, ensuring they received an excellent upbringing which included a good education, strong work ethic and the importance of social justice. In 1980, she and two of her youngest children immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba to join two of her sons. She quickly developed many new friendships, mostly through her role as a member and director at the Manitoba Hindu Senior Centre, where she was also a mentor to numerous young people. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed travelling; mostly with her children. Her family was a great source of happiness and pride. She always beamed with joy when talking about her children and extended family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was happiest when surrounded by family, especially at the large family gatherings in Winnipeg. At these gatherings, she made everyone laugh but always reminded them of the importance of education, financial responsibility, and strong moral ethics. All of her years in Winnipeg, she was blessed to have lived with her children. Tara was predeceased by her husband Premraj, sons, Bohan Paul, Arya and Krishnachand, daughter-in-law Ramwattie, sons-in-law, Dwarka and Jai, brothers, Patrick, Sunna and Harry, and sisters, Subadra and Golin. She is survived and greatly missed by her children, Adaipaul, Gargeena, Derek (Sandy), Vedo (Zamier), Sangameeta, Martin (Linda), Bheesham and Amrita, 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one sister, three brothers, daughter-in-law Bernice, and many cherished nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Kelly-Jean Surber for her tender care and support of Tara during the past four years. The wake for Tara will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Manitoba Hindu Dharmik Sabha, 240 Manitoba Ave., Winnipeg (204-586-9950). The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, Tara requested that you may make donations to a charity of your choice. My Grandmother, Known as Tara Dabie. She was a True legend she was one of a kind. When I think of her, all I could remember is what a hard working person she was. She was a master of all trades, she instilled good value and guidance to everyone. She was the doctor for many in the village. She took many people in her home. And also cared for them and their children. She was quite a person who is strong in her belief. Most of all she was blessed with wonderful children, and grandchildren. Ma was always so delightful and warmly embraced myself and sons. She had a contagious spirit and made us feel special and happy to be in her presence always. We loved her and will never forget how she displayed non partial love for all kids, and invited them to try Indian food. She melted my heart with love for people, she definitely had the Spirit of God Almighty. What a Beautiful and Loving Woman. She taught me to love unconditionally too. Even though I moved away from Canada 30 plus years she was always thought of in the most loving way by me and the boys. Ma the gates of heaven have beckoned you and you have done your job here on earth! You will be missed terribly but your memory in your daughters and sons, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren lives on. You are a special lady. I love you. Pam, Ray and Des ๐ - Posted by: Pam Kauch (Family Friend) on: Nov 15, 2018
