RICHARD F. HUTCHINGS
Date of Passing: Nov 09, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD F. HUTCHINGS, CA CPA Richard Hutchings passed away November 9, 2018, in Mexico, at age 66 years. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 30 years, Liz, and three adult sons, Roy, Sam and Jack. He is also survived by his brother Sandy (Betty) of Vancouver, sister Susan (Jim), and sister-in-law Mona, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John. Richard was a graduate of St. John's-Ravenscourt, both Universities of Winnipeg and Manitoba and earned his CA/CPA certification while working for Deloitte & Touche. He specialized in mergers and acquisitions. He went to work with Price Waterhouse, contributing to the development of their small business practice. In 1984, he founded Hutchings May & Co. with his brother John and Bill May. During this time, he also took over The Hutchings Company, his family's wholesale glassware business. He joined Allmar Distributors & Greensteel Door in 2001, becoming President and Chief Restructuring Officer. In 2012, Richard established Canadian Corporate Restructuring, leading its business restructuring division. He became co-owner of Priority Restoration Services, Ltd. in 2014 and Cancade Restoration Services, Ltd. in 2015. It was his belief these enterprises helped him synthesize all of his experience in the business world. Throughout his national and international business career, Richard demonstrated an ability to see the bigger picture, the world beyond what was presented to him - this allowed him to transform business challenges into successes. He was an accomplished hockey player throughout high school and university. Richard also had a passion for nature, canoed throughout Manitoba and loved to tell stories of his paddling adventures in the Yukon. Time spent at the family cottage on Lake Malachi fed his spirit. He enjoyed its natural beauty, peacefulness, solitude and treasured the life-long friendships he developed there. Above all else, Richard loved his wife and sons unconditionally. He was infinitely proud of the fine men his sons have become. Rich was soft-spoken with a keen intellect and had a wonderful sense of humour. He will be missed by all who knew him. "In this life and beyond..." Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., December 7 at St. John's Anglican Cathedral, 135 Anderson Avenue, Winnipeg, with Bishop Geoffrey Woodcroft officiating. Richard and I met in the early 80's. He was brilliant, but most of all kind, funny, generous, gentle and loving. His family was important to him and was always his first love. I remember him with a great smile and a sense for adventure. He loved to travel and I remember how much he enjoyed the outdoors. He was able to help my father, Norm, out of a complicated tax problem early in his career with Price Waterhouse. To this day my father is grateful for his help and great resolution. Thank you does not seem enough, but it will have to do. To his wife, Liz, and his children, I am deeply saddened for your loss. He is a good man and anyone who knew him, was blessed to have him in their lives. The world lost a great man today. My he rest in peace and be remembered through the legacy of his work, and love of his family and friends. - Posted by: April Stapon (Friend) on: Dec 03, 2018

Rich was part of the SJC "gang" along with John 1969-1972. A very sweet guy.....he gave me hockey skates one Christmas, as he did not feel that figure skates were the "right thing" for women playing inter-mural hockey....a thoughtful and fun gift.
