GARY ZORATTI It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Gary Zoratti, on November 28, 2018, at the age of 80, in Winnipeg. He will forever be in the hearts of his son Brett (Lyndsay); daughters, Colleen (Ron) and Marisa (Vern); granddaughters, Ashley (Alessandro), Jen (Nick), Liz (Ted) and Monique (Mark); grandsons, Kyle (Kaeleigh), Garrett (Norma), Ryan, Emmett and Devin (Nerisse); great-grandchildren, Lily, Owen, Avery and Scarlett; his sisters, Dyanne and Daryl; his sisters-in-law, Pamela (Patrick) and Barbara (John), and his many nieces and nephews. Gary was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend of 50 years, Merle Zoratti, as well as his parents, Florence and Albert Zoratti, his parents-in-law, Doris and Jack Channing, his sister-in-law Gail, and brother-in-law Jack. Gary was a born-and-raised Winnipegger, where he'd spent time at his father's Portage Avenue restaurant, Zoratti's. Later, he'd exchange the dry cold for the sunny climes of beautiful British Columbia in the 1980s, where he lived for decades - including steps away from the ocean at a marina in Mill Bay - before returning to his hometown at the end of his life. He married Merle on May 28, 1960, and, as he'd often say, she was his life. A 33-year career with Air Canada allowed him to see the world for work and for play; Barbados, Italy and Kenya are among his many passport stamps. He will be remembered for his kindness, his quiet strength, his shirt-off-his-back generosity, and, of course, his iconic moustache. He was never afraid to lend a gentle, guiding hand. He was the life of the party, and we will miss that winning smile. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

  • Didn’t know Gary in Winnipeg although I had met him at the Winnipeg Restaurant on Portage Ave. Got to know him and Merle when they moved to Ladner, and later Mill Bay. Promised to meet up with him in Winnipeg after just missing him by one day before his move back to Manitoba….unfortunately too late. Rest In Peace Gary - Posted by: Robin Lyndon (Friend) on: Nov 13, 2021
