JEAN D. PEDEN March 15, 1927 - November 30, 2018 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Jean on November 30, 2018 at the age of 91. Jean was predeceased by her parents: Rev. Dr. Philip Barker and mother Margaret (Madill) Barker; her brother Harold Barker; and her son Roderick William Peden. Jean is survived by: her husband Murray Peden; brother-in-law Allan (Irene) Peden; children, John (Karen) Peden and Laura (Greg) Miskiewicz; daughter-in-law Sara Peden; grandchildren, Kirstie and Alex (Peden), Andrew, Ryan and Scott (Miskiewicz) and other nieces and nephews. Jean graduated from United College with a B.A. in 1948. During her studies there, she met her lifelong companion and future husband, Murray Peden. They were married in 1949 and had three children. Jean was an accomplished cook and devoted mother and grandmother. She took keen interest in the varied pastimes and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, participating to the fullest in every aspect of their upbringing. She could be seen anywhere from a piano recital to a hockey arena, soccer pitch, or highland dancing/piping competition, taking great pride in rooting on all members of her family. Jean had a passionate love of music, displaying talent on the piano at an early age. She earned her ARTC and gave piano lessons in her home for many decades. Later in life, she returned to the University of Manitoba, graduated with a B.Music and subsequently taught music for several years at Britannia School in Winnipeg. A funeral service will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Private interment will take place subsequently at Hillside Cemetery in Portage la Prairie.
