Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY ELIZABETH COX (nee LUCAS) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother Mary Elizabeth Cox on November 24, 2018 at her home. Beth was born January 7, 1921 in Atwater Saskatchewan, the daughter of William and Mary Lucas (nee Brown). Predeceased by her husband Keith Cox in 1999 and siblings, Amy, Alice, Ted, Ken and Arthur. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Valerie and Kathleen (Peter), son Cameron and adored grandsons, Matthew and Steven. Also left to mourn are her sisters, Kathleen (Lucas) in Toronto, Florence (Thompson) in Winnipeg and brother James (Joan) in Comox B.C., sister-in-law Estelle Wise in Ontario along with many nieces and nephews. Mom grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan and shared many fond memories from her youth. She learned the value of hard work and at the same time developed a wonderful sense of humour and resiliency. The Roughriders were still "her" team. Mom moved to Winnipeg and attended Success Business College. She soon enjoyed employment at Deer Lodge Hospital where she made many life-long friends. She met and married Dad in Ontario, eventually moving back to Winnipeg and settling in their home on Wellington Crescent which was the scene of many a memorable Sunday meal. Mom was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining guests. Her love of travel took her to many countries. She especially enjoyed her trips to Great Britain where her ancestors originated and of course enjoyed her cruises. Mom loved talking politics and was a voracious reader right up until the end. She always put other's needs before her own. A pillar of strength with an indomitable spirit, she truly was one of a kind. Funeral service for family and mom's closest friends will be held Wednesday, December 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
