Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALVIN KRISTJAN SIGURDSON With great sadness and love we announce the peaceful passing of Alvin Kristjan Sigurdson on November 30, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce; his children, Larry (Kim), Doug (Josie), Bob (Marilyn), Wayne (Sue) and Lynn (Rob Bommersbach); his 16 grandchildren; his four great-grandchildren; and his brother and sister-in-law Don and Betty Jean Thordarson of Covina, California. He was predeceased by his parents, Kris and Birdie, and his sister Doreen. Al was born in Winnipeg on February 12, 1931. He grew up in the West End and attended John M. King, General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre Schools. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1953 with a BA, and then embarked on a career at Canada Packers where he worked for 34 years, retiring in 1988. It was at Daniel Mac where Dad met his lifelong love, Joyce Thordarson. They married in 1955 beginning a fabulous lifetime journey. Our parents had a wonderful life full of travels and fun times, especially summers at the family cottage in Gimli. There are many happy memories of summers spent at Amma and Afi's cottage! Dad's children and grandchildren were blessed with many wonderful times playing board games, cards, movies, time at the beach, walks for ice cream and backyard camping for Islendingadagurinn. Al was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, and served as Superintendent of Sunday School and on Church Council for many years. A celebration of Al's life will be held on Friday, December 14 at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor Street. In lieu of flowers, a donation to First Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
