IRENE ELLEN MCGRATH Irene Ellen McGrath passed away peacefully at the Charleswood Care Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 83 on November 30, 2018. She will be deeply missed by her sisters, Vera and Gail, nieces and nephews, Sarah (Elden), Lisa, Laura, Linda, Carol, Lois, Kim (Kevin), Chris (Sherri) and Derrek, grandnephews and grandnieces, John, Steven, Melanie and Allyx, her best friend Stephanie and many friends in Ottawa and Winnipeg. Irene was predeceased by her mother and father, Paula and Herbert, her brothers, Doug and Ted, and her sister Kathleen. Irene was born December 22, 1934 in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she lived until moving to Ottawa in her mid 20s. She worked for the Federal Government in several positions including working at Expo'67 in Montreal and ending her career as a procurement officer with the Department of Supply and Services. Irene was a caring woman who really enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved going to the theatre, symphony, ballet and art centre with her friends in Ottawa. She also enjoyed Tai Chi classes and playing games, especially bridge and Yahtzee. Every year Irene was adamant to return to Winnipeg for her birthday and Christmas to be with her family. Irene was vital to the celebration. From preparing the ever-famous Christmas dinner to making sure that the young children (and her sister Gail) didn't snoop at the presents under the tree. Irene will be sadly missed as "Auntie Rene" to her many nieces and nephews. Irene's family extends many thanks to the wonderful staff at Charleswood Care Centre who took great care of her over the past three and a half years. A superlative bunch of caring people! Thank you. Cremation has taken place and a family celebration of Irene's life will be held at a later date. Since Irene was an avid cat lover, donations may be made in her memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society or any charity of your choice.

Our loving and deepest condolences go out to Sarah & Elden, Steven, Melanie, Auntie Vera, Auntie Gail, Lisa, Laura, Linda, Carol, Lois, Kim & Kevin, Chris & Sherri and Derrick. Auntie Rene was a fun-loving woman that loved her family and held each one dear. Although, she resided most of her life in Ottawa; we looked forward to her yearly visits and in sharing Christmas dinner at Sarah & Elden’s. We’ll still remember her place and snap a Christmas cracker for her. - Posted by: Joy & John, Joel, Janina & Nathan, Julie, Maelle, Esme & Oslo (Elden’s Sister and Family) on: Dec 15, 2018
