Born: Apr 09, 1922
Date of Passing: Dec 18, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLESLIE ORVILLE PETERSON April 9, 1922 - December 18, 2018 Les passed peacefully in his sleep, at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, at the age of 96. Les was predeceased by his wife Phyllis, his parents, Fernand and Elsie, and his sister Thelma and brother-in-law Lorne Paterson. Les is survived by nephews, Kevin (Cathy) Paterson and Brian Paterson, niece Nancy (Norm) Dyck, great-nieces, Sara (Dave) Girardin, Carolyn (Matt) Lussier, Laura (Jean Pierre) Labossiere and Dale Dyck, great-nephews, Cameron (Katherin) Dyck and Evan (Kate) Dyck, great-great-nieces, Madeleine, Adelie, Lillian, Charlotte, and great-great-nephew Felix. Les was born and raised in St. James and lived there until he joined the R.C.A.F. where he served in North Africa during the Second World War. When he returned to Canada, Les settled in Charleswood where he would spend the majority of his adult life. Les had a varied career, including his own mink ranch, he worked as an electrician in rural and northern Manitoba, and he spent many years at the CN Transcona Shop in the electric motors shop. Many summers were spent out at the cottage at Laclu, Ontario water skiing behind the boat that he built. When Les retired, he got the urge to travel and took many cruises and trips, including a cruise to Alaska and one to the Panama Canal. It was on one of these trips that he met Phyllis and they spent many happy times together. Les was a very determined person and when he decided to build his own house, he did exactly that. He did everything except actually pour the concrete for the foundation. Les also had an interest in electronics and built many pieces from Heathkit, including his TV. Les also decided he should get his pilot's license, so he set about doing that. Getting the license was the goal and he only flew a couple of times once receiving it. Les lived his life to his expectations and never complained. If he wanted something, he set about getting it done himself. He will be missed. The family would like to thank the kind staff at Deer Lodge Centre Tower 6 for the great care they provided for Les. In keeping with Les's wishes, there will not be a service, however a family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Cancer Research Society or a charity of your choice.
