Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY MARION BROWN (formerly DAY) (nee COOPER) Mrs. Dorothy Marion Brown of Melita passed away peacefully at her residence, the Melita Personal Care Home, on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the age of 105. She was born in Winnipeg on April 25, 1913. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. William and Myrtle Cooper; three brothers and one sister. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Arnott Day in 1957, her second husband, James Brown in 2003; son, William Day; daughter and son-in-law, Janice Hoddinott (nee Day) and Conrad; and stepson, Tom Brown. Dorothy is survived by her son, Murray Day (Susan); six stepchildren, Gwenda Dunning, Penny Edwards (Mel), Judy Downey (Barry), Jackie Brown (Jim), Bob Brown (Donna), Lois McKenzie (Dennis) and their families. She is also survived by daughters-in-law, Michele Day and Miche Brown. One of Dorothy's granddaughters so beautifully described her as, "The proud Grandma of 22 grandchildren, with enough love to make us all feel like her favourite." She also leaves behind many great-grandchildren. She received a B.Sc and a B.A. from the University of Manitoba as well as her Manitoba Teaching Certificate. She taught in Winnipeg following the illness and death of her first husband Arnott Day, and then in Melita after she married her second husband Jim Brown. She was a member of Young United Church in Winnipeg while she lived there, Coultervale United Church after her second marriage, and then Victoria United Church after she and Jim moved into Melita. The funeral service has taken place and the interment will take place at the Coultervale Cemetery at a later date.
