IVAN PISKER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Dida, brother, uncle and friend on January 4, 2019, after a courageous battle with Mesothelioma Cancer. As father, Dida will be remembered by his children, Ani Brayley, Suzie McIntosh and her husband Gord, Johny Pisker and his wife Kathy Ann, and as Dida by his beloved grandchildren: Mathew (Kayla), Justine, Octavia, Hailee and Darian. He is also remembered by his sister Ankica and his brother Slavko and their families in Croatia. Lovingly remembered by his lady friend Theresa Beck and her family. He was predeceased by his parents Ferdinand and Eva. Like many other Croatians, Ivan fled from this socialistic state in 1958 with Mira at his side, they made an exhausting journey to Austria where they were married prior to coming to Canada. After arriving in Montreal via steam ship, Immigration suggested to Ivan that since he was a certified mechanic in trade he should proceed to Winnipeg where he would find employment. Starting in the construction industry as a laborer and shortly thereafter being recognized as a mechanic Ivan worked thru the ranks to use his skilled trade servicing all machinery for his employer Quality Construction. Recognizing further financial opportunity and professional growth Ivan purchased his own gravel truck and proceeded to be a successful owner/operator for many years. Always wanting his dream job he was finally successful in securing a position with CN Rail as a Diesel Mechanic, retiring after 21 years of loyal service at the age of 64. Ivan enjoyed the great outdoors with his family camping and tenting all over Manitoba and eventually building the family cottage with close loyal family friends in Great Falls Manitoba. Most important to Ivan were his children, especially his grandchildren. Attending their activities, and being witness to their achievements and milestones. He was very proud of all his grandchildren and he loved them very much. Prayers will take place on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. and the Holy Mass of the Resurrection on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Both ceremonies will take place at the St. Nicholas Tavelich Roman Catholic Church, 2688 Main Street. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. We would like to thank the pallbearers, John Pisker, Gord McIntosh, Tihomir Bebec, Darian Pisker, Mathew McIntosh, Bronco Gospic. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Ivan Pisker to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or a charity of your choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111
