HENRY DE RIDDER Peacefully, with his family by his side, Henry passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Donna, son Neil, daughter-in-law Susan, granddaughters, Halena and Julia, and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Anne, and his siblings, Mary-Anne, Tom and Chris. Henry was born in the Municipality of Springfield on June 25, 1936 and lived there for a good part of his life. In his early years, he worked on the family farm starting at age 10, maintained excellent school marks and took accordion lessons, which led to Henry playing in a band called the Rhythm Ranch Boys which toured the province playing at barn dances, weddings and socials. Henry married Donna in 1961 and they enjoyed 57 wonderful years together. Although his life dream was to be a farmer, he had a varied and interesting career path - process operator/foreman at North Star Oil and Imperial Oil refineries in Winnipeg, Husky Oil refinery in Prince George, BC, Inland Cement in Winnipeg and Edmonton, then on to power engineering/building operations at the University of Winnipeg, Seven Oaks General Hospital, Lions Club Housing Centres, and Great West Life from which he retired in 2005. Henry took pride in his accomplishments and his association with the many people, co-workers and contractors with whom he was in contact. Henry was a private person, yet he took a great interest in politics and current affairs in Manitoba, Canada and the world, offering his opinions and thoughts. He remained independent and was meticulous in taking care of his home, acreage and everything associated with it. We hope we remember everything he taught us. He loved seeing the many animals that came onto the property always making sure the birds, squirrels and deer were fed throughout the year. Henry also loved his dogs, taking in two rescues from the Humane Society and two more when they strayed onto the property. The dogs became his buddies and side kicks, always with him whether working in the yard or riding in the truck. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, health care aides and staff at Concordia Hospital for their care of and kindness to Henry during his time there. A memorial service will be held at St. Saviour's Anglican Church, 690 Munroe Avenue on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined, but if you so wish, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, or St. Saviour's Anglican Church Building Fund, 690 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2K 1J2.
