MONIQUE ARMSTRONG (GAGNE) (née PREJET) On Saturday, January 5, 2019, Monique passed peacefully at the Golden West Centennial Lodge. After a long illness she left us for a better place. Monique was born June 20, 1933 in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, MB. Monique is survived by her husband of 37 years, Max Armstrong, brother Alban Préjet, sister-in-law Sidonie Préjet, and her children, Gilbert, Chantal (Raymond), Joël (Susan), Milhau, Renaud and Jolaine. She adored her grandchildren, Mylène (Kevin), Cassandra, Natalie (Jason), Natasha (Mitch), Danial, Taylor, Janaya, Juno and her great-grandchildren, Miguel, Arabella, Gabrielle, Emmanuelle and Dalia. She was blessed with and loved Max's many children and grandchildren. She is predeceased by her first husband, Marcel Gagné, their infant son Sasha, daughter Guylaine; parents, Casimir and Marie (Kervinio); brother Jean; sisters, Cécile Couture, Odette Fouasse, Yolande Péreux and Lorraine Préjet; brothers-in-law, Ovila Couture, Alain Péreux and Martial Fouasse; and her sister-in-law Jeannine Préjet. Although Dad passed over 40 years ago, Mom continued to have a very close and loving relationship with the Gagné family. Mom frequently spoke of her childhood years raised on the farm surrounded by her loving family and her pet lamb. She lived her life with great faith and was very involved in her large church community. Mom had a beautiful singing voice and was in her church choir for over 40 years. Her children are grateful that Mom provided many musical instruments that we learned to play and enjoy. Mom raised seven children with her loving presence. She was an incredible mentor and was never afraid to share her opinion and give advice because she trusted we would value them. Mom faced life's challenges with formidable strength, resilience and grace. Throughout her life she was grateful for her many blessings and her genuine happy and funny, feisty nature was a constant. She was happiest when making bountiful loaves of fresh bread, spaghetti, homemade soups and jams and many pies and sweets to share with family and friends. Mom and Max were generous hosts and their dinner parties were sure to include fabulous food and music. Heartfelt thanks for the staff at the Golden West Centennial Lodge for their compassionate care and support. The funeral service will take place at 13h00 on Saturday, January 12 at the Saint John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue. Private family interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Monique's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Mom, may God keep you close in his arms until we can have you back in ours. Dieu t'a dans ses bras, et moi je t'ai dans mon coeur. Que ton âme repose dans la paix éternelle. Condolences & Memories (19 entries)

  • Monique and her former husband Marcel were good friends of my mom and dad, Jen and Lou Aquin when they lived in Grand Rapids, MB. My dad died in 1975 but Monique and Marcel kept in touch with my mom and years later with me, when we met again at our hair dresser and saw each other there regularly for years. We saw each other frequently bumping into one another in St. James. I was sad to see the obituary today and would have attended the funeral, had I found it sooner. Please know that your mom was always cherished as a friend by mom and by me and we loved any encounters, and shared memories and laughter always. She always had a smile and a hug for me and was always so proud of her family. Please accept our deepest sympathy. • Marcel and I have many great memories of Monique and Max during their time at John XXIII. The choir missed them both when they were no longer able to participate at the 9:00 am Mass. We had many fun times together with the choir group - lots of laughter and great food - (lobster feasts included). Our visits to Golden West in later years were rewarding - just to see the big smile on Monique's face when we visited. Lots of great memories - sorry we are in Mesa and will not be around to celebrate her final goodbye, but she and Max will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Deepest sympathy to all of you, as you say goodbye to a great person - Marcel and Louise Mollot - Posted by: Marcel and Louise Mollot (Friends from John XXIII) on: Jan 10, 2019
