LYNDA AUDREY MENDELLA (née JOYCE) October 14, 1946 - January 4, 2019 After many, many years of negotiating her time and energy with multiple illnesses, Lynda died peacefully on January 4, 2019 in Ottawa, Ontario. Lynda is survived by her two children, Paul (Carrie Dawson) and Audrey (Nathan Bender), her grandson Owen Mendella, and June Cameron, her aunt, mother by proxy and dearest friend. Lynda was born and raised in Winnipeg. She had a full life, doing very well in school and pursuing Girl Guides for many years. After graduating from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1967 she started her career at the Health Sciences Centre, in the Respiratory Clinic. Lynda was highly motivated and professionally astute. She published several articles in medical journals and presented at many conferences during her career. She was offered a position with Doctors Without Borders during the early 1990s. Lynda opted to accept a position with Glaxo Smith Kline as a Clinical Research Scientist, and she moved to Toronto to start a new chapter in her life. Unfortunately, it was at this time that she started to struggle with her health. Lynda's love of the Canadian Rockies had her navigating the drive numerous times with her children in tow. Remembering camping and exploring the mountains provided her with a sense of peace in her last days. Lynda's other treasured place was Falcon Lake, Manitoba; years of family gatherings were spent at the cabin on Eagle Bay. Lynda was always quick to lend a helping hand and she enjoyed many close and rewarding friendships throughout her life. A celebration to honour her memory and her presence in our lives will be held in Winnipeg in May 2019. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff at the Perley and Rideau Veteran's Health Centre, where Lynda spent the last several years of her life. We would especially like to thank Dr. Lynn Rusimovic and Oleg Lukin, RN, in this respect. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lupus Canada or Doctors Without Borders. We love you Mom. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • On behalf of the WGH/HSC Nursing Alumni we extend our sincerest condolences to Lynda's family and friends. Lynda's nursing classmates remembered Lynda as a quiet, thoughtful, kind person who seemed to have a very accepting and nonjudgmental nature about her. May you find comfort from the memories of your love. - Posted by: MARIAN Ulyatt (WGH/HSC Nursing Alumni Friendship Convenor) on: Mar 17, 2019

  • I started Glaxo the same day as Lynda, all those years back. She left after a short time. You have written a loving and informative memory for her on the Paper. She, I am sure, would be proud. If possible I would like to attend the memorial in the spring. So sorry for your loss, but can see you are proud of her. - Posted by: Gina (Colleague) on: Jan 14, 2019

  • Please accept my sincerest condolences on your recent loss. We may have been separated by time and distance but Lynda was not forgotten. - Posted by: GEOFF ( BROTHER) on: Jan 12, 2019
