She was predeceased by her husband Roy Hancock, parents, Billy James and Clara, and siblings, Lorraine, Michael, Maurice, Billy, John and Norbert. Ellen Louise McNamara was born March 10, 1933 in Evanston, Nova Scotia. After growing up on Cape Breton, she worked in Halifax for years before becoming a party organizer during the Korean War, where she met her future husband. She married Roy Walter Hancock on August 31, 1957, and together they raised their family from Halifax, Vancouver, Whitehorse, Calgary and Winnipeg before settling in Stony Mountain for 34 years. Ellen and Roy made Stonewall home for the past 14 years. Aside from being a devoted wife and mother, Ellen also worked for Carrington's Dental, offered a home daycare, and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish, the Catholic Women's League, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Wildlife Association. While dedicated to her family, and known for her delicious cooking and baking, Ellen also enriched her life with a love of music, travelling, gardening, camping and fishing, visiting with her neighbours and friends, and volunteering with special needs children. But ultimately she was most proud of, and best loved, her family. We the family extend special thanks to Dr. Eggartson, Dr. Pinniger, Tara Lee Procter, the staff of Teulon Hospital for all their care over the years. A special thanks to the staff of Rosewood Lodge for all their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place with interment to take place at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19 at Mackenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main Street, Stonewall.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)
Dear Ron,Billy and Betty, I was so saddened to hear of your sweet and kind mother's passing. She will always be fondly remembered for her gentle and nurturing way and her fantastic home cooked Sunday dinners. Her innocent, naive nature as your dad made jokes that went over her head and her sweet giggle still resonate in my mind and memory. I'm sorry for your loss of such a loving and sincere mom. Peace and hugs to you all in this painful time. Love, Janice Urbanski - Posted by: Janice Urbanski (Friend) on: Jan 19, 2019

Our family wishes to extend our heartfelt condolences to all of Ellen’s family. I have many fond memories of the entire Hancock family as they were neighbors of my grandparents for many years!! Even though I haven’t seen Ellen in many years the memories (which have been a lot!) Will always be with me. Betty Ruth would also like to express her condolences as well. They were neighbors for many many years and were more like family creating a very welcoming environment for all that visited the mountain! Our hearts go out to you all and we are sorry for your loss. - Posted by: shanna moyes (ruth) and family (Friend) on: Jan 13, 2019
Mrs. Hancock was my neighbor growing up and the mother of my beloved sister in law and grandmother to my 4 precious nephews. I extend my deepest sympathy to her entire family on her passing. She was a kind, loving, gentle soul and we were blessed every day she spent here. Diana Drysdale - Posted by: Diana Drysdale (Sister in law of Ellen's daughter and friend) on: Jan 12, 2019
