GLENDA OVERBY (WARREN)
Date of Passing: Dec 15, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLENDA (WARREN) OVERBY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Glenda Overby in the Palliative Care Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at age 76. Glenda's last three years recovering from a severe stroke were made much more comfortable with the terrific support she received from the Home and Community Support Program in Nanaimo. Special thanks to Erica Holling, Nurse Practitioner and the many care workers who provided exemplary care and support (and endured watching "Trump" TV with Glenda). Thanks also to the caring professionals on the 4th floor and the Rehab Unit who helped in her recovery from the initial stroke. Glenda was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba and lived most of her life in Winnipeg before moving to Nanaimo, BC. After graduating as a Registered Nurse from Winnipeg Children's Hospital, she dedicated her working career to Children's Hospital as a compassionate nurse and later in several administrative roles. One of Glenda's passions was boating on the "Whiskey Jack". Glenda and Ken enjoyed many trips on the Red River, exploring Lake Winnipeg and the many good friendships with fellow boaters. When the weather precluded boating they loved to travel - Barbados being a favourite they returned to many times. Glenda was predeceased by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 40 years, Ken, her parents, Roy and Florence Warren, her brother-in-law Doug and her sister-in-law Erna. Left to mourn her passing are her siblings - brothers, Wayne, Terry, Brian and sister Marsha; nieces, Michelle, Tairra and nephew Tyler; many friends and other family members. Strokes are brutal. Contributions in Glenda's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. "Sadly missed, but never forgotten."

My parents were friends with the Overby's. When we went to their home it was always wonderful. Glenda was kind and generous. All I felt in her midst was love and joy. There was always something to keep us children entertained. Going to their apartment showed me the positive ways to live; to respect architecture, fine furniture, intelligence and the love of life. Your impression has lasted longer than your lifetime. I hope the smell of the sea and the pine trees soothed you while you were on the west coast. Sad we didn't get to go boating again together. Peace. - Posted by: sharon marie (family friend) on: Mar 11, 2025

During the late 70's and 80's, Glenda was involved with our son's care, both as a nurse providing direct care and also while she was in an administrative role continuing to provide support. Our son had a complex medical history and she was very instrumental on many levels to ensure that he as well as the family was well supported. Her care and compassion went well beyond medical care. Over the years, I have had a few opportunities to connect with her. Over recent years, I often wondered what had become of Glenda. She was never forgotten for the impact she has had on our lives. Our son passed away in 2011. I will wonder no more what has become of Glenda as I now know that she stands by my son as they sing with the angels. To Glenda's family, I offer my deepest condolences and hope that you can find comfort in knowing that Glenda was much appreciated and loved. She has had a lasting impact upon our family and will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Jocelyne Lafournaise (Parent of patient) on: Jan 21, 2019

Decades before there was an Apple store in Winnipeg, word-of-mouth brought Mac-curious artists to Ken and Glenda's hi-rise apartment where, in some ways, time stood still. That groovy sunken living room! Glenda was cheerful, calm counterpoint to Ken's madcap garrulity, and welcomed his customers into their home as if we were all old friends. She was a gem, and my thoughts are with her family and friends. - Posted by: Noreen Stevens (customer) on: Jan 19, 2019
