DAVID MACFIELD BOYCE November 13, 1956 - January 8, 2019 He withdrew from our world surrounded by family. Left to miss him are his wife Mary Heather Pohorecky Boyce, children, Eric, Valerie (her mom Janet), Gwynevere, Angus, Grant, his grandchildren, Margaret, Callum (their mom Samantha), Nicole, Rylin (their mom Amanda), Malachi, David's mother Felicia, his sister Michelle and brother Barry. Taken before him was his father Vincent and brother Andrew. David was born in Birmingham, England, the first child of his loving parents. They moved to Stony Mountain, Manitoba when David was 13 and eventually settled in Winnipeg. He was hardworking and reliable from a young age. He worked at CP Rail, Great Plains Rail, Startruss Lumber, where he advanced in operations and maintenance of many large, specialty machines. David had his family's knack of speaking clearly and confidently. He spoke on many subjects. He also listened. He endeavored to debate with others and probe subjects, hoping to arrive at truth or enlightenment. He was interested in spiritualism, philosophy, and examined and questioned fundamental beliefs, values and lifestyles. David pursued body-building when young and had been an accomplished billiards player who won several tournaments. He enjoyed drawing, reading, music and exchanging jokes. David tinkered and ingeniously repaired things, earning him the nickname "MacGyver" at home. He had an active, hands-on fascination with all things electronic, magnetic, mechanical. For five years, cancer increasingly weakened his once strong, healthy body. He faced illness and treatment as well as he could. He was thankful he retained the ability to drive family and friends around and sometimes had small adventures along the way. He always loved cars, and especially his GTO! More recently, David had the opportunity to grow close to his grandchildren. David and Heather met January 30, 1988, and wed on that same date five years later. Heather quotes from Elizabeth Barrett Browning: "I love thee with the breath, smiles, tears of all my life; and if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death." A memorial service for David will be held at North Kildonan United Church at 174 Pentland Ave., Winnipeg on Sunday, January 27 at 2:00 p.m. David's life cannot be thus shortly summarized, but, yet, we must write something. Love, we will miss you.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • David will always live in our hearts as a profoundly good person - honest and true, honorable and intelligent. Our memories of David have always been together with Heather. The love and caring that they shared was an inspiration to all of us. We recall happy gatherings here in the country a long time ago - always the cookout bonfires - in summer, outside with children playing - in winter, the sleigh ride - will always be cherished memories for us. We extend our heartfelt condolences to all of David's family. Our sympathy and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. - Posted by: Irene Pohoreçka and Zen Gawron (Aunt and uncle) on: Jan 25, 2019
