Born: Sep 04, 1922
Date of Passing: Jan 21, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD LEGANCHUK On January 21, 2019 our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully, at the age of 96, with family by his side. He was predeceased by his wife Rose, and brothers, Michael and Jim Leganchuk. Ed is lovingly remembered by his family; children and grandchildren: Leonard - Julie (Kevin), Sara (Val); Lloyd (Betty) - Barrett, Bryson (Valerie); Melvin (Shirley) - Melanie (Nick), Nikki (Michael); Pat (Michael); Ivan (Dianne) - Jordan; Janet (Terry) - Todd, Jamie; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Jessie Pitura, brothers, John and Art Leganchuk, and in-laws, Lillian Leganchuk, Anne Drul, Nestor Drul and Alice Clark Dad was born on September 4 1922 in the district of Sandy Lake, MB. Dad's childhood and schooling was spent in that area. At age 15 after completing Grade 8, he was ready for the workforce. His first job was working for a neighbouring farmer for $5.00 a month. Over the years he worked at home and other jobs in the local area up until 1944 where he enrolled in the Army and remained with the Army until he was discharged in 1946. The following year, he moved to Kelloe, MB and farmed with his parents in the summer months and lumberjacked in Ontario in the winter months. On May 1, 1949 Dad and Mom married in Oakburn, MB. Together they raised their six children and farmed in the district of Shoal Lake for the next 32 years. Dad was considered a "jack-of-all trades". He was his own plumber, carpenter, mechanic, electrician, welder and seamstress. He also knew how to stretch a penny when he had to. When the farm was sold, Dad continued to work in Shoal Lake at a farm implement dealership and worked there until his retirement at age 70. Years later, they moved to Winnipeg where Dad always liked to keep himself busy. He would either help out with family tasks; volunteer with the Knights of Columbus; go to the Legion with Mom to dance to the band's music; curl, fish, golf, play pool and construct buildings and aircrafts from toothpicks right up until the age of 90 when a stroke restricted his abilities. His last one and a half years were spent at the Holy Family Personal Care Home in Winnipeg where he passed on. Thank you to the staff for their care. A thank you also goes out to Susanne for her care. A private funeral service was held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Condolences can be made online at www.cropo.com. Don't think of him as gone away his journey's just begun, life holds so many facets this earth is only one. Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Think how he must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched... for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.

Janet, Terry & boys, Betty & Lloyd I worked with Janet for many years and shared many lunches with her during her time working with me and even after she left Social Services. Remember when we went to Rushing River and I had to dry the tent in my apartment when I got home! I even remember Terry squeezing into my skeleton Halloween costume one year. Many stories were told about her family and trips to Shoal Lake as we were both country girls, me from Swan River. We had many good memories Janet. Betty was also my hair stylist for many years when she was cutting hair in her home. I am so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing, may you hold onto all the memories that you shared with him. - Posted by: Elaine Thidrickson (nee Sherrer) (Previous coworker) on: Jan 26, 2019

We share in your sadness. Your Dad was a hard working man who loved his family. I remember his joy when we would come to visit and his laughter when family and friends would gather to talk and tell stories. We are keeping you all in our hearts and prayers. We are sure he is dancing in Heaven with your mom free of worry or pain. Love Cecilia and Gaetan - Posted by: Cecilia Marion (Family - Cousin) on: Jan 26, 2019
