WILLIAM JOHN (BILL) MCINTOSH April 3, 1930 - January 11, 2019 Bill passed away peacefully, in his home, in the wee hours of the morning with family nearby. He had lived with cancer and congestive heart failure for almost a decade. Bill was born in Winnipeg to Andrew and Sarah McIntosh of Coatbridge, Scotland, the youngest of three children. He began his apprenticeship as a tool and die maker at the Technical Vocational school in Winnipeg at the age of 14. He was a machinist with the Canadian National Railway in the Fort Rouge and Transcona Yards until his retirement at age 55. He finished his career on a special task force, seeking methods to recycle oil, and diagnosing systemic problems with the CNR's diesel locomotives. In later life Bill was interested in politics, photography, cooking, bicycling and gardening. He was an intelligent man, with an avid curiosity and mischievous sense of humour. Bill was predeceased by parents, Andrew and Sarah, siblings, Roberta (Fred) Davidson, and Davis (Kaye) McIntosh, and daughter Samantha Lindsay. Bill will be greatly missed by former wives, Merlin and Marie; daughters, Roberta, Rhonda (Ian Webster) and Andrea (Diane Gall); stepchildren, Donna (Wayne) Butler and Ken (Joyce) Gale; grandchildren, Benjamin Butcher, Stephanie Gall, Carrie (Jim) Olivier, Derek (Kamilla) Gale, Robin Graham and Bradley (Chelsey) Butler; several great-grandchildren; Arlene (Bill) Gray of Winnipeg, and many good friends. Special thank you to Dr. Madeline Oosthuizen. At his request there will be no formal service. His ashes will be scattered near Winnipeg Beach, Lake Winnipeg, MB, a favourite lifelong summer vacation spot. Donations may be made to the British Columbia Cancer Association, the BCSPCA, or Doctors Without Borders.
