CORNELIS (KEES) BASTIAANS May 29, 1946 - January 16, 2019 On January 16, 2019 Kees slipped away peacefully in his sleep. Survived by Diane, his loving wife of 51 years, sons, Neale and Corey, sister Lineke (Lynn), aunts, uncles, numerous cousins and special friends. He worked many years in the wholesale floral industry, not a job, but his passion. In 2007 Diane retired, and she and Kees moved to Cowichan Bay on Vancouver Island. Kees starting volunteering at the MSS in 2004 and then at BCSS, serving as a board member as well as in the community, presenting programs for families and friends who were mentally ill. He also worked as a professional Santa. The Santa persona lasted year round for children who recognized "Santa". Kees created a legacy of having made a difference in many lives with volunteer work and as Santa. "BELIEVE" was his mantra. Camping was a big part of his life, travelling with family, collecting more friends along the way, having fun that turned into memories for so many of us. He is greatly missed. Our gratitude to Dr. J. Eberhard and the staff at Cowichan Hospital 2nd floor south for taking such loving care of Kees during the past four months. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his Life will be held in Duncan and later in Winnipeg. Announcements of dates and times will follow as arrangements are made.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • My condolences on Kees’ passing. Linda D & I from the West Kildonan Horticultural Society went on a garden tour to Ecuador in January. We had just been talking about the two of you as we had been visiting large scale flower growers – and then saw Kees’ notice in the Free Press. We didn’t have your email address with us so apologize for the late message. The notice said there would be a memorial event in Winnipeg at a later point in time. Please let me know when that will be. Hope that you are doing OK – but I am sure you are missing your warm friendly ‘Santa Kees’. - Posted by: Susan Finlay (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2019

Karen and Sharen will always remember the good times our families shared... the camping, skiing, pizza nights, Christmases, and birthdays. May God grant you peace Kees. Always in our hearts. • We would like to send our sincerest sympathy to Diane, Neale, Corey and Lynn with the passing of Kees. He was a friend of ours since we were teenagers and will surely miss him and his tremendous sense of humour. He was a man of many qualities, sincere, thoughtful, compassionate, generous, unpretentious and forever giving of his time to others. Rest in peace my friend we will never forget you.
