MARIE GLORIA GILMOUR (MARTIN)
Born: Jul 22, 1935
Date of Passing: Jan 18, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIE GLORIA GILMOUR July 22, 1935 - January 18, 2019 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Gloria Gilmour (nee Martin), on January 18, 2019 at age 83. Marie was predeceased by her husband of 22 years, Bob Gilmour, parents, Peter and Florence Martin, grandson Dillon Mueller, her brother John Martin, and many other loved ones, both family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Shawn (Anthony), Kim (John), Brett (Lisa), Michele (Joel), and her beloved grandchildren, Melissa, Clayton, Lucas, Tyler, Lauren, Maximillion, George and Cole, along with sisters, Jan and Debbie, brother Gerry (Joanne), and many other family members and good friends. Marie grew up in Pointe du Bois and had a great impact on her small town community. She was a fourth generation "Pointe Girl". Marie enjoyed every aspect of life there from barber, to Avon lady, ladies auxiliary member to cook at "the residence". She played the piano at the Anglican Church, and helped organize many memorable events, meals, and celebrations. She was an accomplished cook, seamstress, quilter, artist, teddy bear maker, gardener, curler, golfer, baseball player, decorator, pianist, photographer, baker, event organizer and homemaker. She loved art, the outdoors, nature, music and dance. As youngsters, her kids could always get out of doing dishes if they would just play and sing a few songs. Marie moved her family to Winnipeg in 1977, where she lived and worked for over a decade, achieving the post of area manager first for Pioneer Grain, and then for Richardson Greenshields. Marie was a mother first and foremost. She cared for her children with deep devotion and selflessness. Those who knew her will remember her as a strong, kind woman who was devoted to family, friends and home, and as a welcoming and wonderful person. Marie made magic in every home she ever set her hard-working hands to surrounding them with trees, vegetable and flower gardens, and creating many beautiful memories for all. She instilled in all of us the importance of giving, caring, and kindness towards others. Marie met and married Bob in 1990 and together, both country folk at heart, they continued to create many wonderful memories in their homes in Lac du Bonnet, and Beausejour. Marie and Bob shared a love of travel, leading to great adventures, which she documented with care in her journals and albums. A recent source of pride for Marie was taking up the drums in her 70s, further inspiring her children and grandchildren. As one of her grandsons would say, "Nobody I know has played the Folsom Prison Blues with their grandma, but I have." Mom, Gran Marie encouraged us all to do what we loved, was fiercely proud of us and of all of her extended family and loved each one of us, unconditionally. Although life is never without it's challenging times, our mother Marie leaves us with many wonderful memories of storybook Christmases, and birthday celebrations for children and grandchildren, pumpkins carved, and sunny summer picnics, beautiful meals and weekend sleepovers, swimming, blueberry picking and blueberry pies. We will cherish these. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Daphne Schmidt, and Dr. Angelle Downey, and to all of the doctors, nurses, and healthcare advocates for Mom/Marie. A special thank you to the compassionate team at Riverview Health Centre. We are grateful to caring family and dedicated friends who showed our mother Marie their unwavering support throughout the years, and especially in her last months, through her battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation would be very much in keeping with our mother's spirit of helping those in need of support, through charities such as the Siloam Mission, Resource Assistance for Youth, the United Way, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. A small family memorial tribute is planned for this summer, as per Marie's wishes. MISS ME BUT LET ME GO When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in gloom filled room Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long And not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared; Miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take, And each must go alone, It's all part of the Master's Plan, A step on the road to home. So when you are lonely and sick at heart, Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds, Miss me, but let me go. - Author Unknown

Marie was always so kind to us and had a great sense of humour. We had so much fun when I was teaching her to play the drums. She started with her drum kit made of pots and pans and graduated to a real kit. She worked hard at it and studied and ended up playing quite well for the short time she took lessons. She was always so concerned about us and would phone and offer her home to us so we wouldn't have to drive home to the city in bad weather. We miss her smile and laugh often and will never forget her, Beausejour Music misses her drumming up a storm. - Posted by: Gail Deleau(John Linklater) (Friend) on: Feb 04, 2019

Our dear sweet Marie, I only knew Marie for a few years. She was a garden angel or a garden volunteer at the Beausejour Daylily Gardens. Marie was so nice. She would come often to tend her plot at the daylily Gardens. The weeds drove her crazy. She managed to convince her loving children to help her a few times. She also kept a lovely garden at her home in Beausejour. You will always be in my heart. God bless you Marie. - Posted by: Mary Veldman (Friend) on: Feb 01, 2019
