NADA FABIJANIC
July 25, 1931 - February 14, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Nada, peacefully at home February 14, 2019.
Nada was predeceased by her beloved husband Nikola Fabijanic to whom she was married for 29 years; her mother Katarina Kralik; her sisters, Elza Dosen and Fina Maronic; and her brother Josip Kralik. Nada is survived by her son Harvey and daughter Leanna Senez (Ray); Harvey's sons, Lucas, Mathew, Jonathan and Anthony; Leanna and Ray's daughters, Theresa Siu (Jonathan) and Michelle Shanks (Scott); her great-granddaughter Yuki; her sister-in-law Gordana Kralik; as well as nieces, nephews and their children in Croatia.
Nada was born in Osijek, Croatia where she grew up and was married in 1954, to Nikola. Nada and Nikola and their children moved to Canada in 1969. After living in Dauphin for three years, they made Winnipeg their home. In Winnipeg, Nada began her career, sewing and later supervising at GWG for nine years, after which she joined GIII Limited as a production supervisor. Nada retired in 1995.
Mom was a strong and loving mother who cherished her family and extended family, both in Croatia and in Canada. She loved her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Baki", dearly. Mom was a fabulous cook who delighted in feeding her family and extended family at many gatherings over the years.
Mom was an accomplished knitter, creating beautiful sweaters, hats and blankets for her grandchildren and others. Mom shared this gift for many years with donations of hand knit blankets to new single mothers with newborn children.
Mom was a kind and loving woman who will be remembered for her inner strength, character and faith, as well as her love and devotion to family.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Jan Ritchie for her many years of care, Silver Lining Care staff and caregivers, and to WRHA Palliative Care doctors, nurses and staff.
In Nada's memory, donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 9:30 a.m., at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
