IRENE CHRISTINE STEFANYSHYN (née NAHIRNEY) July 25, 1936 - February 21, 2019 On February 21, 2019, Irene suddenly left this earth to join her beloved husband, Eddie, whom she loved and missed dearly. Surrounded by her family at Seven Oaks Hospital, she peacefully passed away. Irene was predeceased by her loving husband Eddie in 2015; her two daughters, Sharon and Gale; and parents, Fred and Bernice Nahirney. Remaining to cherish her memory and her love, her son Donald, wife Wendy and her precious "Kaylee Girl', the light of her life, granddaughter Kayla Stefanyshyn; "Granny's little helper" Montana Loutit; and extended family, Sabrina Castel, Quentin and Carmen Loutit, Desmond and Jackie Loutit, and Lloyd Castel. Also left to mourn her passing, brother-in-law Stan and Connie Stefanyshyn, sisters-in-law, Stella Pilat, Maureen Bihun and Kathy Stefanyshyn, plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and Irene's many close friends from St. Anne's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Irene was born on July 25, 1936 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. She took piano lessons, Ukrainian dancing, and attended St. Mary's Academy while growing up there. Upon graduation, she secured a position at Great West Life, where she worked until birth of her first child. Irene then became a homemaker and piano teacher, and a very active member of St. Anne's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Betula Lake was the summer escape from hectic city life for 28 years with family and the close friends she made at the lake. She was extremely proud when granddaughter Kayla entered the Ukrainian program at school and learned to speak, read and write the language Irene had grown up with at home. Irene and her husband Eddie were lifelong members of their church and made many close, dear friends through the years. From visiting the sick, singing in Ukrainian choir, making perogies, going on day trips, to eventually becoming members of St. Anne's Seniors Horizon Club, church was a very important part of Irene's life as was her language and heritage. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Alan Wizinsky at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28 at St. Anne's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 35 Marcie St. A luncheon will follow, and private family interment will take place at a later date. Active pallbearers are Dennis Stefanyshyn, Corey Stefanyshyn, Kimbell Lamb, Gerry Bidou, Justin Stefanyshyn and Tyler Mortimer. Honorary pallbearers are Todd Stefanyshyn, Derek Stefanyshyn, Dale Stefanyshyn, Mike Fotiuk and Tyler Lamb. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for all your hard work and kind words. Dr. Johnson and the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home, who made her stay one of being spoiled and pampered daily - she loved you all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193 www.korbanchapel.com
