SANDRA JANE WYRZYKOWSKI October 31, 1937 - February 26, 2019 Instructions from Sandra indicated not to look for significant "stuff" from her life, as it isn't there. Her family disagrees. For so many of us, she was a pillar of strength and understanding. Sandra was born and grew up in Winnipeg, making frequent trips to Willard Lake with her family. She married, had children, and found joy in teaching Grade 6 in Dugald for 20 years. One of her greatest pleasures was being approached by and catching up with former students. When she chose to recommit to the Catholic Church, the Nathaniel Program provided the path she needed to regain her faith and understanding, and ultimately led to the deep comfort she found in God. Sandra is predeceased by her brother Raymond (1989) and survived by her siblings, Conrad Wyrzykowski and Grace Hargrave. She is also predeceased by husbands, Johnnie (2004), Bert (1988) and her heart's delight, Klaus (1994). Sandra is survived by her children, John (Donna) Gatschuff, Rick (Karen) Gatschuff and Sandi (Tom) Cross and her stepchildren, Reid, Dennis and Greg. Sandra is survived by 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and Shirley Obie; Nana was her hero and mentor. Sandra passed peacefully in her beloved home of 47 years, surrounded by loved ones. A mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Cooks Creek, Manitoba. Condolences & Memories (20 entries)

  • Sandi, Sorry, to hear of the passing of your mom. Your name came up with all the old gang on the baseball team...Control Data team - Posted by: Vern Hiebert (baseball with sandi) on: Jan 20, 2023

  • Aunty Sandra was an amazing and strong woman. Her love and thoughtfulness she'd show for our cottage visits in the summer will always be remembered (especially her pickles!). She will be missed. Love, Anne - Posted by: Anne Hargrave (Niece) on: Mar 09, 2019

  • I have known Sandra for many years, being one of the Doctors at the veterinary hospital where she brought her pets. Sandra was so kind-hearted, she loved her furry friends. I was always grateful to enjoy a social visit with her when she brought a pet to the veterinary hospital. Her dog, Chardnay brought her so much joy. Sandra and Chardnay would show up at the vet clinic on every special occasion - Chardnay would be dressed in a hat or scarf to celebrate the holiday - Easter, Christmas or Halloween. Sandra also shared her love for animals by bringing Chardnay and her little cat Minerva to visit the seniors at Kin Place. She was always so thankful and grateful for the care we provided to her pets. A beautiful soul, she will be missed. All who were touched by Sandra's spirit and love of life and God's creatures were truly blessed. My sincere condolences to her friends and family. - Posted by: Annette Fleming (Friend/veterinarian) on: Mar 04, 2019

  • With profound sympathy may I express to the bereaving family my sincere condolences with prayers. May God grant unto Sandra Jane Eternal rest with the Saints in Heaven and may our Lord comfort the bereaving family with His Divine Blessings. I will be celebrating during the Great Lent a Divine Liturgy for the repose of Sandra Jane's soul. God Bless! - Posted by: Rev. Peter W. • One sentence in the obituary caught my attention: "... the Nathaniel Program provided the path she needed to regain her faith and understanding, and ultimately led to the deep comfort she found in God." As a presenter of Scripture at Nathanael, this is where I met Sandra and got to appreciate her keen interest in the Bible, her smile and very positive attitude. She did attend other Bible sessions outside Nathanael and always revealed the same keen interest for the Word of God. Condolences to the family and especially to her brother Conrad. From "Condolences and Memories" it is evident that she had a strong impact on her nieces and nephews which says a lot about her. Unfortunately, I cannot attend the funeral because I already had another one at the same hour. - Posted by: Camille Légaré (Friend form Nathanael days) on: Mar 01, 2019

  • I was very lucky to have Sandra in my life and to have retained a relationship with her over the years. I didn't get to see her often but every visit was a joy and I cherish every memory. She welcomed me into the family with open arms and we developed a friendship out of that. She was an amazing Nana to my children Cassandra & Allen and she taught them many important life lessons - not to mention tools to help them through life. She was a wonderful support and "was just there" when I went through the pain of losing my own mother in 2014. Sandra came and visited with her and gave comfort to my mom during that difficult time. I was lucky enough to have a great visit with her, Grace and Conrad in the summer of 2017 and watch her joy in playing with her great-grandson Caryk. Most recently I got to say goodbye to her in August of this year and get one last "big warm hug" from her. She will be greatly missed and I feel blessed to have had her in my life! Condolences to all of her children and their spouses and families! - Posted by: Helen Gilbertson (Friend) on: Mar 01, 2019

  • My wife Jackie and I feel so fortunate Sandra was able to make it to our wedding last September. She was in great spirits visiting with all the family and being chatty as usual. She will be missed, lots of love to all the family. - Posted by: Joshua (Great-nephew) on: Mar 01, 2019

  • We wait too long..... always I have intended to "look up" my Friend Sandra, and always never came. I should have gone to find her. We met at the Nathanael lay preparation course and was immediately aware of the strength and depth of character possessed by Sandra. I immediately considered her a true friend. I know that if God is willing and will take me home someday, that I will see Sandra again in Glory. God Bless all of you who knew and shared Sandra's life. - Posted by: Bruce Buchanan (Nathanaelite Friend) on: Mar 01, 2019

  • So sorry to hear of Auntie Sandra's passing but so grateful to have had the opportunity to visit and catch up during our trip to Winnipeg in Dec. 2017. I will always admire her wit and intelligence, and her beautiful smile. We wish we could be there on Saturday as you celebrate her life, but will be thinking of you all and keeping you in our thoughts and prayers ❤️ xoxo - Posted by: Anne & Herb Donkers and family (Niece) on: Mar 01, 2019

  • My biggest memory of Auntie Sandra is of her chitty chatting for hours with her sister Grace on the screened porch at the cottage. They loved to get together and play scrabble or bridge and talk. And her famous pickles, which she lovingly made and gave away. They were precious. Auntie Sandra's Pickles were treated like gold every summer at the cottage. She would always arrive for a visit with a beloved dog in tow, occasionally a cat, and lots of vegetables from her garden. She was a doer: generous, hard-working, unpretentious and very loving. She will be missed. - Posted by: Nadine Hargrave (Married to her nephew, Mark Hargrave) on: Feb 28, 2019

  • Sincere condolences to your family. Her kindness, sense of humour and love for her family will be remembered. My thoughts and love are with your family. - Posted by: Allie (Family friend) on: Feb 28, 2019

  • Dear Sandi & Tom We are so sorry for your loss and we are saddened to hear of your mothers passing. Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Although we only knew Sandra a short time, she made a lasting impression on us with her spunky personality. AJ shared many stories with us about her wonderful Nana. Sorry we will be unable to attend the funeral but we will be thinking of your family on Saturday. • I am forever grateful to my Aunt Sandra for the endless love, care, support and attention she gave to her big brother, my father, Conrad. So very, very many visits, even when she was not feeling well, special family treats she carefully prepared and delivered, gardening, endless phone calls, support and so much more. She was a pillar of strength to so many. It is now her time to Rest In Peace. Much love to the family and her close friends, Sharon xoxo - Posted by: Sharon (Niece) on: Feb 28, 2019

  • Of all the memories my favorites are time spent at Willard lake, visits at the farm and playing with her and the dogs. May you live on in all of our hearts and memories. Your strong yet loving spirit will be greatly missed. Love to all the family. - Posted by: Justine (Family ) on: Feb 28, 2019

  • My condolences to you and your family, Sandi. It must be hard to say goodbye to someone so important in your life. You always spoke so highly (and often) of her; perhaps your memories will help you adjust. All the best, Jennifer Sande - Posted by: Jennifer Sande (Friend of Sandi's) on: Feb 28, 2019

  • My strongest memory of Aunty Sandra is making what I referred to them as ‘papa pickles’ at the Willard lake cottage a few years ago. This is a very special memory for me because I got to see all the effort she put into gifting her homemade pickles and how much fun myself and the other kids had with her! Love you forever and always - Posted by: Kendra Motz (Great-niece ) on: Feb 28, 2019

  • One of my many favorite memories of Aunty Sandra was eating suet pudding that she made at her place. It was always a race to see who got the most pits. Rest in Peace - Posted by: Conrad J. Wyrzykowski (Nephew) on: Feb 28, 2019

  • We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved “Nana”, as she will always be known to us. She was a delightful woman with the kindest of smiles, and a wonderful sense of humour. We toast a glass of sherry to her memory! - Posted by: Kelsey & Aaron Penner (Family Friend) on: Feb 28, 2019

  • Played Canasta with Sandra at the Library. Nice, quiet lady with a sense of humour. At stated in her obit, she had a full life and was loved. God bless you Sandra and hold you in His arms. - Posted by: Kathy Fecio (Acquaintance ) on: Feb 28, 2019

  • Sandra was and will be in our memories for the rest of our lives. Sandra most memorable happening to us is how to make wild plum jam, the stones were in the jam.
