SEYMOUR ATKINS (BLACKIE) BLACKADAR Seymour passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the age of 93 and is safely at home with his Lord and Saviour. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth; sons, Jim (Robyn), Gerold and David (Lisa); along with granddaughters, Jenicka (Allan), Kayla, Emmalee and Sarah; in addition to great-grandsons, Trey and Kayn. A native of Weymouth, Nova Scotia, Seymour proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy and Merchant Navy (DEMS) during the Second World War. After the war, he returned to Weymouth briefly and afterwards he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He served in Korea and then was transferred to Germany attached to NATO when he met the love of his life, Ruth. They spent many happy years together in Germany and when posted to Canada, he wrapped up his military career and then was employed in the Public Service sector. Seymour greatly enjoyed visiting family and friends in Nova Scotia (especially his nephew George and niece Bev - they always kept him updated about news in the Maritimes) and in North Carolina. Family get-togethers, storytelling, RCASC reunions and fishing all played a part of Seymour's life. Especially making him happy was his role as an usher at church; he had a ready, welcome handshake and a greeting for both old and new friends. Billy Graham, the great evangelist who died a year ago once said, "Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don't believe a word of it! I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God." The family would like to send their sincere thanks to Tenise Nolet (Prime) for the kindness and care she has shown, as well as Dr. Russell Albak and Dr. Don Allan (Nephrologist). Seymour's funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Ness Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Ness Avenue. Following the service there will be a reception at the church, with a light lunch. Seymour is forever in our hearts, we were blessed.
