DIANE GWENDOLYN HAMER After a long battle with Alzheimer's, Diane passed away on March 16, 2019 after spending her last few days with her children by her side. She was predeceased by her daughter Kim, and her husband Tim. She leaves to mourn her children, Mark (Cathy) and Shannon, and grandchildren, Sydney and Erin. She will be missed by several family members in Ontario (including her brother Joe), England, and Australia (including her sisters-in-law, Jackie and Betty), as well as friends here and abroad. Diane was born on October 22, 1937 in Timmins, Ontario. She married young and had her eldest daughter, Kim. After her divorce, she met and married her love, Tim Hamer, in 1962. Tim and Diane moved to London, Ontario with Tim's work (Towers) and had their first child (Mark) in 1966. They then moved to Toronto with Tim's work and had their second child (Shannon) in 1970. Later, they found their way to Winnipeg and settled into their family home in Fort Richmond. Once her children were established in school, Diane rejoined the workforce, working for the Bank of Montreal until her retirement in the early 1990s. Tim and Diane retired together and subsequently moved to Gimli in 2000 and returned to Winnipeg in 2002. Many thanks to the staff at Golden Links Lodge until 2014, and later River Park Gardens for their compassionate care of both Mom and her family during her stay there. A private family service will be held in the summer.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Aunt Dianne was always kind, generous and witty. Whenever I was in her company, she would make my sides ache and make me gasp for air from laughing so hard. On the grey backdrop of life, she was a bright sparkle of light. She will be missed. My condolences to the family and all who knew her well. - Posted by: Wayne Fletcher (Nephew) on: Mar 25, 2019

  • Aunt Dianne was always a favourite with me. She was always very funny and caring. She was my godmother. She suffers no longer in this world and has gone home. Rest in peace Dianne. Love Lynn - Posted by: Lynn Anki (Niece) on: Mar 22, 2019

  • I met Mrs. Hamer 40 years ago, when Mark and I were 12 years old. I spent alot of time at the Hamer home and Diane always made me feel at home. She liked to joke around with us kids and I have good memories of her speaking in a funny voice, often imitating Mark. It was always nice to bump into Tim and Diane around Fort Richmond, and they always referred to me by my nickname. I thought that was pretty cool. I am very proud of Mark and Shannon and how they cared for their parents as they became unable to fully care for themselves. They did so, without complaining and I think we all know the road was long and difficult. Rest in peace Mrs. Hame. I will remember you fondly. • Mark, Shannon and Family, I'm so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing, I remember her well growing up from both the bank and the perfect living room in the house that us teenagers were only allowed to pass through and look at. My thoughts are with you, cherish the great memories I'm sure she is very proud of you and your families. - Posted by: Tim Shyiak (Friend) on: Mar 20, 2019
