GERTRUDE BIPPUS March 4, 1931 - March 21, 2019 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Gertrude Bippus, on March 21, 2019 at the age of 88. Left to mourn are her daughters, Linda (George) and Eileen (Gerald); grandchildren, Michael (Chelsea), Christina (Anthony), Lisa (Ben), Ellis and Lana; her great-grandchildren, Lily, Bennett and Oliver, and her younger sister Maria in Germany. She was predeceased by her husband Ernst, and sister Monica. Mom and Dad immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1956 without any family and not knowing a word of English. They quickly learned English, assimilated into Canadian life, soon after they started a family and Mom became a homemaker raising her two daughters. Mom was widowed far too young, at the age of 65, and had to endure a left mastectomy followed by a brain tumour in the two years following, but she never gave up. After months of rehabilitation, Mom was able to return to her home and lived there for another 17 years until the second brain tumour began to take its toll. For two years she was a happy resident of Irene Baron Eden Centre where she enjoyed her "neighbours", the many activities and the good food. Special thanks to the staff of Irene Baron Eden Centre for their care and compassion for Mom and more recently to the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital, 3rd Floor Unit 2. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of one's choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Eileen, Your Mother was a wonderful woman. I enjoyed her company especially when walking my dogs. I would stop and talk to her and we would share a laugh or two. She was an inspiration to me. She was independent and hard working. I watched her manage the yard, walking to the store and cutting the grass. Lloyd used to offer he rides to the store and she would decline saying if she could not get there on her own whe could not stay in the house. I missed her when she moved and will always keep fond memories of her in my heart/ Love to you and your families. - Posted by: Judy Batten (friend and neighbor) on: Mar 26, 2019

  • Eileen - We were so sad to hear about the loss of your Mother. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I hope the lifetime of memories you have of your Mom will bring you comfort and peace when you need it the most. I know that she must have been very proud of you and loved you very much. Love Always, Susan and Danny and family xoxo - Posted by: Susan Janega-Baird (Eileen's friend ) on: Mar 23, 2019
