JOHN FREDERICK HOKANSON March 21, 1949 - March 20, 2019 John Hokanson passed peacefully away, at Selkirk General Hospital, one day short of his 70th birthday on March 20, 2019 from cancer. He was predeceased by his father Raymond John Hokanson, and his sister Roxanne Lana. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Wendy, of 48 years, his sons, John William (Nicole), James Earl (Donna), Corr Christopher and Josef Raymond, grandsons, B. John, Wolfe, Noah and Owen, granddaughters Jessica, Hannah, Lauren, and great-grandson Hayden. Also leaving to mourn are his mom Lena (Helen), sisters, Tanis, Venda (Wayne), Sharyn, Orlanda (Andy) and Dianna, brothers, Bob (Denise), Lorne (Terry), Ray (Doris), and numerous nieces and nephews. John loved to work and he was a jack of all trades, mastering many occupations in his life. He was a Captain of minor waters, a Captain of the Amphibex Icebreakers, the driving force for Hokanson Construction, stonemason and farmer. John was a good husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. He was a good friend, a good teacher and a good coach. He cared deeply about his family and friends. If he was working at something, he spent his time gardening, fishing and hunting, playing cards, darts. He had a lifetime membership at the Sellkirk Legion branch #42 and was the founder of the Selkirk Junior Darts, running that program for 11 years. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 9 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., upstairs at the Royal Canadian Legion in Selkirk.

  • We're so sorry to hear of John's passing. We have such wonderful memories of him. John was so much fun, so charismatic and he had such a great sense of humor. His bonfires were always so much fun and we always felt like he was teaching us something with one story or another. He was a great man. Lots of love.   • To Wendy and Corr I am deeply sadden to hear the passing of the great man. I am happy to have met him at darts. He was sure one hell of a dart player. He even given me some tips on how to finish the game. My husband have watch him work on the ice till he decided to retire from that job. Now he will be miss but I know he is looking down on to you all and all his friends. This is not a good bye this is see you later. Take care of each other.
