It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, George Barry McVeigh, at the Colonel Belcher Veteran's Care Home on Monday, April 1, 2019.
Barry was born in Antler, Saskatchewan, but as a young man moved with his family to Thunder Bay and then Winnipeg. Barry married the love of his life, Lorna, in August 1958 and the two of them were blessed with three children, Cameron, Cathryn and Colleen. Barry was employed with the Winnipeg Fire Department from March 1956 to March 1988, retiring after thirty two years of faithful service as a Captain. Barry and Lorna retired to Victoria, British Columbia in 1994 and resided there for twelve years. In 2006, they made a final retirement move to Calgary to be with all their children and grandchildren.
Barry was so full of life and embraced everyday of his eighty eight years of life with great compassion. He was so committed to his family; he loved his wife, children and grandchildren with all his heart. All made him so proud and he loved to spend time with each and every one of them. Barry enjoyed many hobbies including, fishing at Big White Shell Lake, curling, travelling, music and growing the most beautiful flowers at home.
Left to cherish Barry's memory are his wife Lorna of sixty years; his children, son Cameron (Shelley) McVeigh, daughter Cathryn McVeigh, daughter Colleen (Richard) Keller. Also mourning Barry's passing are his five grandchildren, Sarah (Ezekiel) Shia, Chelsea Keller, Keenan McVeigh, Riley McVeigh and Chanel Brisard-McVeigh.
