GILBERTE (GB) COUTURE
September 12, 1928 - April 9, 2019
Mom, better known as GB, may not have won her last card game, but she won something much greater eternal life. She is now reunited with her daughter Carmen and welcomed by spouse Claude and numerous other family members and friends.
Mom was one of 12 children raised on the family farm in Ponteix, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by 10 siblings, she is survived by her sister Bernadette Williams of Calgary. Mom is mourned by her four surviving children, Paulette (Phil Osborne), Gisele (Dean Brescacin), Monique, Jean-Claude (Darlene Gagne); six grandchildren, Lindsay Strong, Kelsey Scheibel (Matt), Chad Couture (Lindsay), Craig Couture, Kyla and Jaylene Stoesz; and three great-grandchildren Novalee and Aria Couture, and Carter Scheibel.
As a young adult, she attended a retreat, with the possibility of becoming a nun. However her calling was to serve her faith in another fashion. She left Saskatchewan for Manitoba and married Claude Couture in 1951. While Dad was busy with the family business "Couture Motors", Mom, devoted and loving, raised her children in St. Boniface, Manitoba. Mom also had a passion for real estate and obtained her license in her early 40s and enjoyed a successful career well into her late 60s. Her retirement years were full of activities she enjoyed and her competitiveness was legendary to her friends and family.
In the past 10 years, Mom lived at Dakota House. We wish to thank her "Dakota House Family" residents and staff as well as the home care nurses, for the friendship and care they willingly shared. Special thanks to Frank Singer who was with her in her final moments. We are forever grateful for his love, friendship and devotion.
A private celebration will be held at a later date.
If so desired, you can make a donation to a charity of your choice in Mom's memory.
"Bon voyage Maman
spread your wings
you are home."

I am truly sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She was such a good friend to our family, especially Mom and Dad. So many special and fun moments were shared with her "over the fence" or in each others' kitchens. Despite my distance, I have always kept GB in my heart, feeling she felt like family to our whole family. I hope with the help of family and friends that you will all find peace in knowing GB is in a better place, looking down upon you with all the love a Mom can ever have. GB will be missed by many, including myself. Lorraine Heaton (Jacques) - Posted by: Lorraine Heaton, nee Jacques (Bibeau Bay neighbor) on: Apr 14, 2019
