It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, at 78 years of age, on April 15, 2019. Wayne passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was predeceased by his father Joseph O'Rourke (1969) and by his sister Connie May (2018). He is survived by his mother Phyllis O'Rourke, his brother Stirling (Anna Lee) O'Rourke and brother Terry (Margaret) O'Rourke. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Sean, Tim (Patty), Stephanie (Chris) Ashley and Angela Watson. Also by his grandchildren: Brett, Dylan, Madison, Ashanti, Sebastien, Nicholas and Ben, as well as by his two great-grandchildren: Emelyn and Margot. He also had many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was born in Farrellton, Quebec to Joseph O'Rourke and Phyllis Mahon. Wayne spent his early years in the Ottawa area of Quebec-Ontario until 1971 when he moved his young family to Winnipeg. Wayne was an insurance broker starting out with Monarch Life in Ottawa. His success at selling insurance earned him the transfer to Winnipeg where he continued to sell with excellence. In 2018 he celebrated his retirement from insurance sales after 50 years in the business. Wayne enjoyed his life following various motorsports (NASCAR and other levels) and hockey (Jets). He was an enthusiastic participant in his Roman Catholic faith (Mary, Mother of the Church) where he ushered for a time, as well as being a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. One of Dad's favourite outings would be to go with Clarence Zacharias to the Fargo and Grand Forks racetracks to enjoy quality dirt racing.
The family would like to thank the 3 East staff at Concordia Hospital and the ICU staff at the Grace Hospital. Your professionalism coupled with compassionate care was greatly appreciated as we witnessed his transition from this world to a better one in great peace.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Dad's life will be held at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive on Wednesday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I knew Wayne for a fairly short time in a business club. I recall a nice guy with a gentle sense of humour. There should be more like him. My condolences. - Posted by: Bob Greenhalgh (Business friend/acquaintance) on: Apr 20, 2019
