KATHLEEN ANNE TOMECKO
November 5, 1928 - April 15, 2019
Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, Stephen and Anna (nee Mantyak), and by her brothers, Gerald, Wilbur and Ted, as well as her sisters, Geraldine and Georgina.
Kathleen was born on the family farm in Lipton, Saskatchewan. She was always most caring and compassionate, as well as being energetic and mischievious, and those qualities endured with her throughout her life and endeared her to family and friends.
Kathleen graduated from Lebret High School and joined the Sisters of Our Lady of the Mission in Regina in 1947, pronouncing her vows in 1950. She then attended Teachers' College in Saskatoon, and later obtained a Bachelor of Arts followed by a Bachelor and then a Masters of Education at the University of Manitoba. In 1950, she began her teaching career in the Separate Schools in Regina, Saskatoon, Wolsely, Brandon and Fort Francis. In 1970 she joined Winnipeg 1 School Division at Earl Grey School. Kathleen was a natural teacher and had the unique gift of engaging students at his / her level and encouraging them to rise to their full potential.
In 1987, Kathleen left the Congregation of our Lady of The Missions, but maintained a very close friendship with the sisters with whom she had lived and worked for 40 years. Sisters Betty Iris and Jackie Bartush maintained that friendship and connection right up to Kathleen's final days.
Kathleen loved many things, among those are: bringing the cake to a birthday celebration, entering contests (and winning her fair share of those), gardening, flower arranging, horse racing, and shopping. She used to love being at the Sisters' cabin and being the boat chauffeur. Kathleen will be remembered fondly by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Mission, all her Catholic Church family, and longtime friends, Jill and Eric Overall.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave., Winnipeg. Interment will take place at a later date at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Lebret, Saskatchewan.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)
Sorry to hear of Kathleen’s passing. She was a first cousin to my mother, Irene (Krofchek) Michelson. [Her mother Anne (Mantyak) Tomecko, and my grandmother Mary (Mantyak) Krofchek were sisters.] They were playmates on the farm near Patrick/Lipton. I got to meet Kathleen for supper in Winnipeg with my sister Marie in about 2005. It was a very enjoyable evening as she reminisced her life on the farm in that grand Tomecko House. I do family history research and would love to connect and swap some photos and history. I’ve located where the Mantyaks originated in Slovakia and also the original spelling of the Family name. I would love to contact you, email below. Cousin Connie firstname.lastname@example.org - Posted by: Connie Michelson-Roberts (Cousin) on: Apr 30, 2019
