Date of Passing: Apr 15, 2019Offer Condolences or Memory
Son of Edward and Wanda Schulz, Edward was born in Erazmow, Poland in 1925. He spoke frequently of his early years in Poland, reminiscing about working on the farm and his love of animals; horses in particular. He was forcibly separated from his family during the war, and reunited after as his family became refugees. Ed immigrated to Canada with his parents and sister Maria in 1948, initially living and working on a farm in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan. Ed worked in a variety of jobs across Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan in those early years before settling down in Winnipeg, where he met and married Gertrude Saleski in 1953. He worked at Swift Canadian Company for 28 years until 1979, after which he managed a small apartment block until his retirement.
Ed is survived by his three sons and their spouses - Harry (Cindy), Richard (Donna) and Robert; as well as nine grandchildren - Christopher, Todd, Danny, Stephanie, Kurt, Lucas, Ali, Robert Jr. and Chanel.
Ed and Gerti lived on Greenwood Place for most of their years - developing a community of dear friends from their neighbourhood. They were also longtime members of Lutheran Church of the Cross and the German Society of Winnipeg. Ed loved to dance - and he was happiest when he could find a band that played "good music". He also enjoyed a sunny day at the race track watching the horses, and spending time with his family on Greenwood Place.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 23 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Viewing will be at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service at 11: 00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Cross.
